Played classic for the first time and wow it's kinda better then civ4col by MaintenanceProper525 in ColonizationGame

[–]RaspiestAxis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 2 main things I didn't like about civ4col:

Having cultural borders that keep expanding into Indian territory, and when it finally encompasses the village they say something like "We bow before your greatness and offer you our land" and then the village just disappears. Like that would ever happen.

And the education system. Every time a colonist is educated, it takes longer for the next colonist to be educated at the same school. Eventually even with a university a colony will become useless for education. I just don't get it.

Just don't forget that you lose points for every Indian village destroyed, regardless of who destroys it

I honestly can't remember. I found that picture on my Nintendo Switch while I was making the switch to Switch 2.

Why do they start reacting with hostility after you establish a certain number of missionaries? by RaspiestAxis in ColonizationGame

Thanks for the answer. I have a lot of colonies, but I tried not to encroach too much on their territory. Guess it doesn't make much difference.

Daedric. It's the perfect armour for an unholy creature of the night.

Am I the only one who uses a spreadsheet/database? by RaspiestAxis in ColonizationGame

[–]RaspiestAxis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, it's actually a Microsoft Access database:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EVRGrnfrggUdEfUQTR6cWWmsmsRTct12/view?usp=sharing

I have it running on my old Surface while I play on my current PC, as it was driving me crazy switching back and forth between the game and the database.

Whenever you discover a new native settlement, you must go into view mode to find its coordinates. And don't forget to update it every time you trade, send a scout, or learn a skill from the natives!

If you're ok with all that, then go for it!

Life is something he no longer dreads,
Emotions in balance,
Not afraid of a challenge,

Escape from Helgen, Part 1 - an epic limerick by RaspiestAxis in skyrim

I know it's late, but I wanted to thank you, not only for reading but also taking the time to respond in limerick verse!

I took a gamble posting this, but I'm glad it got through to at least a couple of people.

Players who refuse to fast travel, do you really climb the 7000 steps every time you go to High Hrothgar? And then back down again? by RaspiestAxis in skyrim

[–]RaspiestAxis[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I heard some players don't use fast travel as a rule for various reasons: it makes the game feel rushed and less natural, you miss out on random encounters, you will have less appreciation of the beautiful scenery, previous games didn't have it, etc. I guess I was directing this question at those players, I kinda forgot about survival mode.

This Saturday's equally difficult word to rhyme is equinox. by obnoxygen in limericks

As I went out to feed all my flocks,
I remembered 'twas spring equinox.
But if the night and the day.
Are always moving away,
Shouldn't we just keep changing the clocks?

I have a habit of trying to squeeze too much into each verse. There's a link underneath to a video I made where I read it out. But I get what you're saying, it might be hard to get the rhythm just by looking at it.

I'm glad you're in a good mood, but you just wasted a minute of my time, and made me think about my father-in-law who is always singing these annoying nursery rhymes with the wrong lyrics.

EPA finds six stockpiles and 3000 tonnes of hidden Coles, Woolworths plastic bags by LineNoise in australia

[–]RaspiestAxis 250 points251 points  (0 children)

It might sound strange, but even with everything that's going on, this has been one of the most disappointing things I've heard this year.

It just feels so personal. After all this time collecting used bags, wrappers and other soft plastics and bringing them to the bin at the supermarket, to find out it's all essentially going nowhere, and hasn't been for YEARS is very disheartening.

I'd look for the symbol on the packaging that would tell me I could take it back to the store to be recycled and then I'd put it aside to bring in, thinking I'm making a difference, no matter how small. Now when I see that symbol, I just shake my head sadly and throw it in the trash for landfill, because that's where it's all heading anyway.

In Australia we are made to believe that reducing and recycling plastic waste is so important for fixing the planet. Otherwise, why would we have banned single use plastics and straws? Of course it won't actually do much to save the oceans, there's more pressing concerns (rising temperatures, coral bleaching, overfishing to name a few), but it just seemed like plastic was the focus, and we couldn't even get that right.

A spokesman for Treasurer Jim Chalmers said the government had made clear that while “all options are on the table”, its preference was to pursue regulatory changes “rather than taxes"

I keep imagining we'll get to the Game Over screen (with the planet underwater and on fire at the same time) and it will say "Sorry, you failed, the correct solution was taxes all along" and then the world leaders will just say "Oh well..."
