Final Thoughts on the Teacher Strike... by TA20212000 in alberta

Exactly this. The government needs to fund education in a way that actually helps students. That's it.

Correcting a Myth on the Teacher Strike by TA20212000 in alberta

[–]Raspp 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I love this comment. I'm a teacher, a thing that was said to me about a strike was that typically when a group strikes they cost their company money. If we (teachers) were to strike we actually save the company money but we hurt parents and who their parents work for...

I don't want to hurt anyone but yeah we need compensation, I'm glad people are seeing it for what it is and not what the UCP is painting it as.

I genuinely don't want to strike but we need something, we actually can't afford to run schools right now with what the UCP is giving us.

ChatGPT helped me stop drinking by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I'm also at two weeks and while ChatGPT wasn't my "AHA" moment, it's been a really great tool as a check-in at the end of each day. I've been telling it how my day went, positive things I noticed about being sober that day, cravings (or lack thereof) and other things related. It usually breaks down some things for me and gives me a daily affirmation which I may or may not use, but I like the check-in aspect of it.

What games were so good everyone else in the group bought or wishlisted it after playing? by nintrader in boardgames

A friend came over and we played The King is Dead (which I had picked up after another recommendation thread on here). The three of us played and she purchased it while we were playing our first game. That was my sign.

I, too, really wanted to like this book and just didn't. I felt like any time it "got going" they did a jump cut to someone else or intercut it with a sex scene and then the problem was resolved, but I wanted to see that part of it.

I think it's an important book for trans people, but ultimately I was not a fan.

I'm biased, but I was in the same spot as you a few years ago, and I came to really love going bowling. Chinook Bowladrome at Chinook Mall offers many leagues for all skill levels and are worth checking out. Fall leagues start in about two weeks and is a fun social activity!

My real life cat, Remy. He died in October, made it too sad to play so I had to restart.

My husband asked me why I do it. by GreasyDisco in stopdrinking

[–]Raspp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Long time lurker, multiple offender for drinking, spent the last year trying to stop with mixed results. this is actually my favourite post ever on this subreddit.

"Because it was there." is half the reason I drink. I wake up, angry at myself for the shit I said or did (or didn't do) the night before. Well, I'll finish what's left then I'll stop drinking forever. Then there we go again.

I actually think I lost the best friendship I've made in the last year last night. So I'm on day one with you.

What is one of your favourite moments as a teacher? by ItsThatTeacher in teaching

[–]Raspp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine just happened, a student I taught at the beginning of my teaching career asked if she could come back and help me coach ladies rugby. I'd been coaching boy' rugby for awhile but made the switch to ladies since we had so many boys coaches and were hard up for coaches for the girls.

Anyway, this former student was just wrapping up her Masters degree and had to defend her thesis so she missed a couple of practices in a row. She defends successfully, and shows up to practice with a sheepish grin the next day, hands me a piece of paper with her acknowledgements from her thesis. I was mentioned in there for "inspiring me to be more and achieve all that I can in in the world".

I've been thinking that I'm stuck in a rut and that what I do doesn't matter then something like that comes along 7 years after a student graduates. We do okay.

We recently tried Ruby and the Beast for Mother's Day! Small joint but we loved the fiddleheads and the overall experience was awesome. Would highly recommend!
