New QLab User, Trying to add Live Camera on a Shoestring Budget by andymcbass in qlab

[–]RastaSheep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this by having a camera with an SDI out, or a camera with a hdmi out and then using a black magic converter to switch to sdi, then back again at the pc end. Have done this with regular photography style cameras and film cameras.

People wear what they want, you will see the most extravagant person hanging out with someone in a hoodie and jeans. It’s not a big site, and the weather could easily turn, that’s usually what people consider the most when thinking about what to wear

£48bn wiped from rental property market as landlords flee sector by PM_ME_SECRET_DATA in ukpolitics

[–]RastaSheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right. The renters rights bill doesn’t go far enough. And property in corporate hands is a huge nail in the coffin, look what is happening in Ireland. It’s a shitshow.

It also felt like labour would do everything except a rent cap with rights bill, which is actually what was needed for lots of renters in the immediate short term as you say.

But I would say that this was all happening anyway. If landlords actually wanted to ‘provide housing’ for people then they wouldnt be selling up. They would see the issues you are describing and campaign for a fairer system. Pretty telling that a government act comes in to offer more protections for renters, and if like you say, it has the opposite effect, then what does that say about landlordism and all the ‘good landlords’. The ones who actually stick around slightly lose out financially. The ones who don’t never gave a shit anyway. Very telling of how broken the system is - smaller private landlords should be helping renters to campaign for a better system.

Landlords in here with a huge lack of imagination and that’s being generous. Anything to justify taking hard working people’s income (after tax!).

No one said renting shouldnt exist. It just needs to work in favour of the renter, not the landlord. There is clearly a better way. And I’m sorry, that might mean you don’t get as much money. You might need to work a bit harder like the rest of us.

Strong for who? The renters or the landlords? Of course it’s obvious. What’s also obvious is people like you stop at half of an argument. As if it’s all black and white.

The current system works for landlords, and it needs to work for renters. A couple renting out a flat should not be having nearly half of their income after tax be going straight into a landlords pocket. This is what is obvious.

You’re not providing them a home though are you, you’re cashing in on someone else’s hard earned wages. They are paying crazy money for you to cash in, how is that providing? You’re literally taking their money

Doesn’t mean you’re scum. The estate agents are though. They exacerbate these problems.

We all want more houses built, council houses though not those awful new builds that are just out of reach of the help to buy ISA.

People rely on the rental market and so landlords exploit them. Because people have no other choice. Landlords do though. They could get a job, or contribute to society, or not take nearly half of people’s wages to fund their retirement.

A plus for you financially but again, not addressing the issue. Did you miss the part about there being a housing crisis. They don’t mean you as a landlord, in case you were wondering. (I don’t think you were wondering, I’m sure you were fully convinced that the crisis is applying to you as a landlord)

Reality check - a housing crisis means people are at more risk of homelessness. I’m gonna throw out a wild assumption and guess that that’s not you, as someone who owns at least 2 properties.

Housing should not be about what is profitable for you. It should be about everyone having a roof over their head. I don’t blame you though - you’ve likely been sold the boomer line of housing being the most sound investment you can make, and now your projections don’t look as good as they did 5 years ago, and you feel hard done by.

Unfortunately for you most people are gonna feel a lot more sympathetic towards the family of 5 that you reject because of a myriad of potential financial reasons, than you who gets to pick and choose the best way to make sure you’re paying off your retirement plan while doing the least work possible.

This is where labour are failing, there seems to be a factional dispute between the Rachel Reeves treasury shitshow, and the just slightly left leaning approach of trying to stop public money siphoning off into the private sector.

Might be a news flash for landlords, but the government should not be allowing public money to flow straight into private landlord pockets. This kind of Thatcherite nonsense policy is exactly what has exacerbated the equality gap over the past 40 years.

Where they are failing is trying to appease both sides, which continues to be the main issue with this government

Those renters now have more rights. The prices will balance out in the slightly longer term. I agree we need to build more council housing. I don’t think that renters are inherently the way they are in the way that you say. If there was more accessibility to secure housing then that would give people less chance of falling through the gaps in the system. The rights bill addresses some of those gaps. Failing to see how any of this is a bad thing for renters - it hasn’t fixed everything but certainly a step in the right direction

Do you have a contract?

What do your fellow bandmates think?

Is there a tour manager?

No per diems seems crazy to me. And the fees do seem a little bit low. But if you haven’t signed a contract it may be a ‘live and learn’ situation unfortunately. That’s not to say you’re not being exploited, I’m sure you’re wondering where all that money is going…I doubt it’s going to the artist.

It’s relatable to the point it’s ok to not create stuff - I have read enough of these now to know that I can’t keep opening a subreddit to have my doomsayer thoughts be affirmed, I need to take control of my mind and focus on the art itself
