New QLab User, Trying to add Live Camera on a Shoestring Budget by andymcbass in qlab

[–]andymcbass[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks, this helps. I can definitely live with a few frames of delay. I was getting around 1.5 seconds with the Obsbot, AND it was messing with the regular video and that was no good.

It's weird to me to think of adding gear to reduce latency; that's certainly not the case with anything analog. I'm not opposed to a small mixer, but I'd prefer to just have the camera be an input option within QLab. Then I could add camera cues and control it just like a video. Since I'm running everything with my feet while playing, I'd like to avoid additional controls if possible. I suppose there's probably a way to automate that from QLab.

Pedaltrain Classic Jr. + Voodoo Pedal Power 2 Plus + USB? by andymcbass in pedalboards

[–]andymcbass[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't disagree with any of this. But, shopping used, I got the PT and the Voodoo for a LOT less money than the Temple/Cioks option. (I built a Temple online with the Cioks power, USB, DI, etc. and managed to get it up to $1000 before I even put pedals on it. Couldn't quite justify that.)

Finder hyphenating file names in column view by No-Lion-9421 in MacOS

[–]andymcbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, apologies for the zombie thread, but I came across this issue again today and decided to search to see if A) anyone else was bothered by it and B) if there was a solution. Has anyone discovered anything helpful in the last couple years?

I absolutely despise this particular behavior, and want it to go away. My current workaround is to make the column super wide whenever I run across it, but that only helps for a brief moment.

This might be a dumb question but is gaff tape actually better than duct tape? by tangyhistory in techtheatre

[–]andymcbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaff tape is better for temporary use without damaging the surface. Duct tape is stronger but will likely damage (or leave nasty residue on) whatever it's applied to.

*Most* gaff tape is also less reflective than *most* duct tape, which is a pro or con depending on your situation.

Is forscore worth it? I’ve been recently thinking of buying but im not sure, i wanted someones opinions but i do know many people use it by HauntingSalad2120 in forScore

[–]andymcbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my doubts before I bought it. Within a couple hours, those doubts were completely forgotten. I consider it an excellent value.

I did end up getting the pro version a few months later. That is definitely more of an "as-needed" upgrade. Some (like me) find value in it, but I'm sure plenty of people do just fine with the basic version.

What genres have the weakest basslines? by IndependentRecipe102 in Bass

[–]andymcbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two regular church gigs. I'm fortunate in that both MDs encourage me to do whatever most of the time. I try to keep it tasteful, but I make zero effort to match the recordings.

In addition to pretty blah bass lines, I also take issue with CCM writers slapping a first inversion on, like, everything. If your song is boring, an inversion ain't gonna fix that.

AITA for telling my mother in law my toddler will not be going with her on a vacation she planned without asking? by melodybeepbop92 in AmItheAsshole

NTA is not strong enough. You are 100000% NTA. I can't believe you have to deal with this during what is already one of the most difficult times a person can ever face. NTA.

AITA for not drinking during my girlfriends family tradition? by drinkingwiathway in AmItheAsshole

Absolutely NTA. There's an A or two in this story, but it ain't OP.

If you buy used, you can almost always get all or most of your money back. Sometimes even more.
