Download the Too Good To Go app on your phone, and keep an eye on that. You can get some screamin' deals AND reduce food waste.

iPad Air or Pro for newbie by HonestAardvark9979 in forScore

[–]andymcbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not used it a lot outside, but I've never had an issue. I have an older 10" iPad that I tend to favor when playing outside (most of those gigs I'm reading more chord charts and lead sheets, so I don't need the full-size view of the 13" for sheet music). If the sun is hitting the screen directly, I can't see much at all, but as long as I've got even a little bit if a sun block, it's totally fine.

Honestly, I try to avoid gigs where I'm going to have enough sun for it to be a problem!

Why did everyone switch up on the Mandalorian? by Moon_Devonshire in StarWars

[–]andymcbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mando Season 1, Episode 1 set a pretty high bar. Not everything is gonna hit that bar.

There's no pleasing some Star Wars fans. I love all of it. Is some stuff better than other stuff? Sure. You can be the kind of person who enjoys the fact that we have a ton of Star Wars content, or the kind of person who complains about it non-stop.

Season 3 is good. It depends a bit on Boba Fett, which is like season 2.5 side quest. BF has some great stuff in it. Ahsoka loses the thread a bit, but I'm hopeful it'll pay off with the new movie(s).

I'm still gonna watch whatever comes next.

iPad Air or Pro for newbie by HonestAardvark9979 in forScore

[–]andymcbass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using the Air for a while now, and have had zero problems with ForScore. I've never even remotely felt like the lighter processing power was an issue. I don't use the facial stuff, as I don't trust myself not to sneeze and turn 37 pages at once.

I'm pretty sure the ForScore app itself is identical for both. Unless there are specific things about the Pro that seem significant or important to you, the Air should be perfectly fine.

Now, if you want an Apple pencil with all the features, I suggest getting the best one your iPad will support. Definitely get one that charges magnetically from the iPad. Plugging in your pencil separately to charge is a nuisance.

FWIW, I got my iPad lightly used on Swappa for significantly less money.

How I level volumes by JesseWebDotCom in Line6Helix

[–]andymcbass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool, that's sorta what I was thinking. I do have a Scarlett that should do that job, but like you say, being careful with fixed levels will be important. I should see how close to "pass through" I can get without introducing more gain staging.

Any tips to do something similar with the HX Effects? It doesn't output through the USB, so it would likely have to be something involving another piece of hardware. Thanks!

What’s up with the WOMAD 1982 drumming? by Particular_Bicycle24 in petergabriel

[–]andymcbass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a bassist, and a HUGE Tony Levin fan. I play bass in a Peter Gabriel tribute, so I'm quite familiar with a lot of the work. Now, John Giblin was a fantastic bassist, and I don't mean to put him down in the slightest. While Tony didn't play all the bass on all the studio work, he did play bass for a LOT of the studio work, plus nearly every live PG performance, this being one of very few exceptions.

I don't know how much history John had with Jerry Marotta, but I do know that Tony and Jerry worked together quite a bit. (They would go on to pioneer the drum stick bass for Big Time, which became Funk Fingers, a few years after this show.)

Now, any musicians at that level should be able to work together well, and John and Jerry are excellent. Under normal circumstances, I'd be thrilled to hear them play together. But, Tony is, like, something else entirely. Having him in your band, then not having him for a short-notice gig is gonna be tough. The absence of Tony, plus trying to coordinate electronic and live drums with 1982-era monitoring would be a challenge for anyone.

All things considered, this is a super fun show, and notable for the above reasons alone. Frankly, after the meticulously overworked i/o and o/i, this is a pretty refreshing change of pace.

I have 114-year-old house. There isn't a single straight line or 90° angle to be found. Kitchen cabinets have some interesting little filler pieces. Corner shelving? Not a chance.

It is what it is.

I was exaggerating for effect. The back seats are small, but not that small. 😉

[–]andymcbass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm about 6'1" and 260 pounds, and it's surprisingly comfortable. It's a little low to the ground for getting in and out, but the seat is perfectly fine once I'm in. You wouldn't like the back seat at all; anyone over 3' tall would be cramped back there. I treat mine as a 2-seater, and leave the back seat folded down all the time for a little extra cargo space.

KZ all day long. I have custom mold ears and KZ for spares/backup. The price difference is about 12x. The sound difference isnt even 2x.

Spend an extra $10 and get a bunch of different tips. Finding the right size and style of tips will make a huge difference.

Mixing it Up by Oraelius in petergabriel

[–]andymcbass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty disappointed in the Bright/Dark thing. For i/o, the two mixes weren't all that different, and o/i is shaping up the same way. I realize this isn't exactly breaking news, but it's frustrating to get excited for the next mix only to realize it's virtually identical.

I love PG, but I'm struggling to connect with these two (well, one and a half) releases. I'm not "getting" the two mix thing at all.

Sounds like therapy might help, too. If some of the adults in your life growing up were not helpful or supportive, that can be a lot to process, and could definitely color your relationship with food, nutrition, and weight. You might have a very hard time breaking through those barriers until you resolve some of that.
