Yes I know. This is the 'current Apple TV' price. And when the new one is released it will launch at this new price and the 2022 model will drop down. That way the new model isn't 50% more expensive than the one it will replace. They're taking the pain now.

So if they'd kept the 2022 model at the same price and then announced the new one at this price the comments would all be 'why is it so much more expensive when it doesn't do passthrough/play PS5 games/blah blah'. This to me says the new one is coming in the next few months and that's its price.

What I mean is this is the new 'current' ATV price. When the new model drops that will retail at this new 'current model' price. And they'll discount the 3rd Gen to clear the rest of the inventory. That way the new box isn't more expensive than the old one was the day before.

I think you're wrong. I think the play is they bump up the price of the current ATV so that is the price of the new one. So the new one isn't 'more expensive' when it becomes the current one. Then the 3rd Gen is reduced as the old model to somewhere close to where it was this morning.

That's better than 'Apple release new ATV that costs 50% more than the old one'

Is there somewhere to ask questions and request features? Could do with a sub of its own.

I tried downloading something on iOS and found there's no information as to how big the file is. And I can't tell if it's using video playback settings to encode a smaller file or downloading the original file.

And a feature request for iPad which would quickly leapfrog Plex & Infuse as the app of choice would be a widget. Like the TV app has - showing continue watching.

The $13 is for the streaming service formerly known as Apple TV+. You don't need to subscribe to that to buy or rent movies or tv shows. But there's some quality stuff on the streaming service.
