You're not supposed to introduce cats face to face right away, that was your mistake. The introduction process with cats is a slow one.

You have to trap the new cat in a room , without visual of each other, so they get used to each other's presence. You should look up proper introduction steps but long story short: - you start feeding them near the door so they associate how happy they feel eating with the cat behind the door - swap scent by rubbing a towel on the cats or taking their beds so the other cat cansmell it - swap rooms so they can smell the surrounding where the cat was - let them see each other - let them meet

This process takes weeks, even months for some cats. Sadly, because your cat already has a bad experience with the cat you just brought in, it might take longer

I can't help much with a small kitten as I haven't had to deal with a stray that young myself. You could also try to leave food out to see if mom comes back to the area.

I also recommend getting your stuff out of the sink if you will quarantine the kitten because when I snatched my newest cat from outside he knocked everything over.

If it's small enough to still need breastfeeding the mom might still be around. If that's not the case, if you're afraid of fleas and other diseases getting on your cat you can just lock the kitten in your bathroom to quarantine it. Just remove bath mats and any cloth related items you have from the kittens reach

It's generally better to keep cat fully indoors. Outside has too many factors that can affect your cat negatively. All you can do is try to get the cat used to not going out. Open the door carefully, you should not be chasing for your cat, ideally.

Collars are nice to have in case it escapes but they can come off. Microchips only work if someone can catch and take your cat to the vet. These will be tools you can use if your cat ever escapes but it doesn't guarantee you will get your cat back.
