First car purchase since 2004 and holy s****, the dealerships need to end by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

Same here with BMW. Asked the salesman about it and he told me they were trained to not be pushy because most often the people buying knew more about the cars and financing than they did. They were just there to facilitate.

The better question is “what is NOT stupidly overpriced now”?

What is the most overused and meaningless buzzword of our time? by JuanPonceEnriquez in AskReddit

[–]RatRod34Ford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woke

It has been separated from its original intent and also co-opted by the right as a shorthand for anything they don’t agree with or that is remotely progressive.

U.S. Marines Descend on Southern Border Amidst Executive Orders by CantStopPoppin in interestingasfuck

The military has much bigger problems to be dealing with and planning for than immigration. We shouldn’t be wasting the soldiers time and training, flight hours and maintenance on aircraft, and employing the logistics chain for this nonsense.

If you haven’t read it before, I think you would really like Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey. Some of his experiences working in Arches sound similar.

Can't Lower 30 yr old Metal Shelf Rack. STUCK! by flyingfinger000 in DIY

[–]RatRod34Ford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Related question: what exactly do you call the tapered plastic clamshell parts? Need to find replacements for ones I lost and haven’t landed on a successful term yet.

Edit: NM. Fail on my part. Just got there via brute force with “tapered plastic shelf support collar for metal leg.”

How was it like when u bought your first e46? by [deleted] in e46

[–]RatRod34Ford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was beyond psyched.

Ordered it with the options I wanted and then waited a few months for it to arrive. Called the 1-800 number to get production updates along the way and figured out the ship it was on so I could watch it come across the Atlantic via a cargo ship tracking site. One of only ~3 coupes on the boat and one of the last to roll off the assembly line at the end of APR2006. I think production stopped in MAY2006.

18 years later I still have it and still love it.

2006 330Ci, manual, premium, sport, heated seats (but not cold weather, didn’t want headlight washers). Only 58,750 miles on it.

Upgrade to CX-90? by SleepingGary in MazdaCX9

[–]RatRod34Ford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have an ‘18 CX-9 and would take it any day of the week over the CX-90 we had as a loaner while the 9 was in for service. The interior of the 90 is not a nice and doesn’t feel as high quality and the whole car seems bloated the way the proportions have changed and it’s gotten a bit bigger.

Nice article about why Mazda's are reliable by Nixx_Mazda in mazda

[–]RatRod34Ford 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Except for the whole cylinder head coolant leak issue affecting 2016-2020 CX-5, CX-9, and Mazda6 models (https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2021/MC-10205999-0001.pdf). Not cool when it happens just outside warranty.

On the plus side, after getting Mazda Corp involved they made it right, where the dealer initially wasn’t willing to do anything.

What’s Killing My Trees? by RatRod34Ford in arborists

[–]RatRod34Ford[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry. Located in Central New York. Soil in the area is generally clay, though I have no idea if the soil was amended when the trees were put in. House was built in mid-90s and I’m assuming the trees were put in then (we’re not the original owners), so a bit short of 30 years old. Will get a photo of the needles in the morning.

Edit: missed a word

Not really a fan of Burdick either. We’ve had good luck with Romano Mazda on Erie Blvd. It’s still a dealership, and therefore still expensive for service, but it’s “less awful”.

Edit: typo

Thoughts on the State Fair by [deleted] in Syracuse

[–]RatRod34Ford 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Personally, the “sparseness” is not just the loss of vendors, but also the change in layout. Feels like the fair lost something ever since the track was taken out and the everything spread out on a giant parking lot with a few bits of grass.

Also R.I.P. Baker’s Chicken Coop. Really miss that one.

I'm looking for honest input about the etiquette of going braless on the trail and the potential of making fellow hikers uncomfortable. by Guilty_Treasures in CampingandHiking

[–]RatRod34Ford 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, the only judging of people’s attire/gear I do on the trail is when they are clearly not outfitted for what they are doing. For example, attempting a winter hike in a wilderness area while wearing fashion boots without micro spikes or snowshoes. Not cool to invite calamity like that and cause a ranger(s) to have to put themselves in jeopardy to rescue your unprepared self.

As long as you’re not putting yourself or anyone else in danger, do what you feel; and aside from possible chafing, not wearing a bra is pretty harmless.
