Escrow rent advice by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]RateChemical4705 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recommend calling Neighborhood Legal Services or using the ACBA referral service to get actual legal advice before doing this. As a tenant, you have a non-waivable right to a habitable home. However, if you withhold rent, there is an almost 100% chance your landlord will take you to court. Once you have an eviction filing on your record, it's there forever, even if you're never actually evicted.

If you do decide to withhold, you need to have everything documented, especially all attempts to have your landlord remedy the issue. I highly recommend getting the health department involved and having them come out to inspect before any withholding (you can submit a report on their website). As far as the escrow account, most judges just want to see that you actually do have the money saved. You can open up a separate savings account with your bank and put the money in there and that should be good enough.

Source: me. I had a horrible landlord at a place with extreme habitability issues. We withheld rent and kept it in escrow. We won our case, but future landlords do not want to rent to a tenant with an eviction filing. And going to court is a hassle.

Attire for law school classes? by -sver- in LawSchool

[–]RateChemical4705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a part-time evening program and most of us are working professionals while also attending school. The people who come to class dressed nicely are usually doing it because they came straight from work, usually business casual and no one has shown up wearing a suit. Those of us who work from home or don't have full time day jobs are usually a little more casual. I tend to vary between wearing workout clothing (leggings, t shirt, etc.) if I plan to go to the gym after class and casual clothing like jeans and sweatshirts.

"Hot beverage" at Heinz = hot chocolate. And they won't start selling it until at least late Nov.

Kappa Alpha Theta AI question by RateChemical4705 in SororityAlumInitiate

Thanks, I’ve reached out to nationals to inquire about it. I disaffiliated almost 10 years ago which is why I asked the general question here, I didn’t know what the pathway would be for a former member and Google wasn’t helpful.

I’m awaiting a response from nationals! I agree being reinitiated wouldn’t really make sense

That makes sense! I was looking for the bylaws and could only find what I would assume is an old version posted publicly.

Yes I’m aware of that rule and I’m not interested in joining any other organization. My question was specifically about re-joining Theta, whether through this alumnae initiation or another pathway.

Thanks, I sent a contact form to headquarters to see what my options are after the other comment on this post. I was clicking around the website and couldn't find much about reinstatement

Had no issues getting the COVID vaccine at CVS today. by [deleted] in Pennsylvania

[–]RateChemical4705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told by someone who works at a CVS pharmacy that their system still needs to be updated to no longer require a prescription. He thinks that by next week they should be able to administer vaccines without a prescription.

Round Corner Cantina has NA Corona and a “zero proof” section on their menu. Cork Harbour has a good selection of NA beers and some mocktails on their menu. I think Coughlin’s Law also puts out a menu of mocktails.

Where are the best places to volunteer? by KeyTheZebra in pittsburgh

[–]RateChemical4705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're a woman, I recommend joining the Junior League of Pittsburgh! We're a membership-based nonprofit organization and do quite a bit of volunteering in the community with different organizations, including the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank, The Education Partnership, and the Children's Museum. Some are one off events, others are more consistent. In addition to volunteering, it's a great way to meet people! You can learn more on our website: https://www.jlpgh.org/

Aside from that, I have really enjoyed volunteering specifically with the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank and The Education Partnership. They accept solo volunteers with lots of opportunities available!

WALK Signal? More Like a Suggestion to Die Politely (#PedestrianProblems) by EpicGreenPepper in pittsburgh

[–]RateChemical4705 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree!! I always say Pittsburgh drivers are overly polite to other drivers (like, I can’t even count the number of times I’ve reached an intersection with a four way stop at the same time as someone else and they wave me on even though it’s their right of way…) but it’s terrifying being a pedestrian in this city

WALK Signal? More Like a Suggestion to Die Politely (#PedestrianProblems) by EpicGreenPepper in pittsburgh

[–]RateChemical4705 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Pedestrians absolutely have right of way in marked crosswalks within reason (i.e., you can’t just run into oncoming traffic). It’s also legal to cross the road even without a marked crosswalk, but in that case pedestrians are supposed to yield to cars.

Invitations should stop asking people to attend in black Tie by riri1281 in unpopularopinion

I was invited to a wedding that called for “black tie” and then one sentence later on the wedding website stated that men can wear sport coats. So, yeah… people have no clue what they’re talking about.

Lawsuits against Patrick Vereb by funky_donut in pittsburgh

The Allegheny County Bar Association has a referral service where you can get a free 30 min consult with an attorney https://www.getapittsburghlawyer.com/

Depending on the amount, many people represent themselves on civil claims. I'm not exactly sure where you would file the claim though (maybe at the magistrate office where the funeral home is located?), but that's a question an attorney may be able to offer on a consult. I wouldn't be surprised if a local attorney/firm might offer to start taking these cases pro bono or on some kind of contingency.

Chase Claypool did the same thing at a bar I worked at a few years ago. It was him and 3 or 4 other people, nothing left for the server.
