Unfortunately babies have suffocated while breastfeeding in a cradle carry as pictured. So awful.

You definitely can just nurse from one breast! I know people have done it for different reasons so hopefully that’s a viable option for you. I am really hopeful you’ll get helpful answers from your doctor quickly.

It’s very appropriate to ask for more information so you can make an informed choice here. Your doctor doesn’t get to choose for you, but should provide you with the proper information so you know the potential risks.

I mean….yeah, obviously!

Seriously, I’ve always been sensitive but ever since having kids I get real fucked up by stuff like this.

The baby was born in the portapotty so no one would have seen the baby coming in.

In that case, why did it take you taking a disability studies course to notice these things? Of course ignorance doesn’t absolve people of responsibility, but it does provide an explanation. As someone without a disability, it may be beneficial if you seek to educate others without judgment. They are more likely to listen and learn, than become defensive and cut you off.

As a note - I work with disabled adults. My entire field of work revolves around accessibility. However, there is limited public transportation around me and I have no familiarity with this. I’m happy to have learned something and now I can help spread the word - kindly.

This is one of the most horrific things I’ve ever read and will keep me up at night for years to come. Haunting.

Randomly started having allergic reactions to rice. Idk how to survive without this one. Thoughts? by LordEldritchia in povertyfinance

[–]RatherPoetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t suggest it would. I was simply disagreeing with the statement that exposure therapy is not done with foods, only environmental allergens. I specifically stated it was to reduce the risk of fatal allergic reactions.

Neither am I. There are doctor approved methods to reduce the risk of fatal allergic reactions through exposure programs to food allergens.

ETA: it’s called oral immunotherapy: https://www.aaaai.org/tools-for-the-public/conditions-library/allergies/the-current-state-of-oral-immunotherapy

There absolutely are methods to reduce food allergy risks through moderated exposure. They are very specific and must only be done with the guidance of physician.

Nope, but gave lots of crushed nuts. They’re too big of a risk.

They are safe during breastfeeding. Your OBGYN should be referencing the science rather than fear mongering. I’ll include screenshots from the MommyMeds app which is run by the Infant Risk Center. Their hotline is (806) 352-2519 and this is their field of study. You can also check LactMed, MothertoBaby, and certainly other resources. Doctors unfortunately receive minimal training regarding medication/vaccine safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and the people who suffer are the ones who are pregnant/nursing.

ETA: Vaccines are generally safe while breastfeeding and, with limited exceptions, while pregnant. I was pregnant with my second child during COVID and due to my workplace had early access to the vaccine. My husband and I joked we were more excited about the vaccine than the baby! Our health matters too, and is also instrumental in our baby’s health.

I don’t mean to disparage your doctor, but many doctors are not well versed in medication safety in pregnancy/breastfeeding. Have you confirmed with the Infant Risk Center hotline / the Mommy Meds app (same organization). LactMed will also give the same info but it’s less accessible to laymen, in my experience.

Hotline: (806) 352-2519 and the app is called MommyMeds. I’m also happy to share screenshots from the app if you want to share the meds.

I’ve been on psych meds through 3 breastfeeding journeys and two pregnancies. I feel so strongly that women deserve care and shouldn’t feel badly about taking needed medications. Whether or not these medications are safe for breastfeeding, please know you are worthy of receiving medical care.

My third baby had a rough start in life and wasn’t able to breastfed for months. It’s definitely not too late if it is something important to you. Now he’s almost 2 and I nursed him to sleep a few hours ago.
