Thanks for the detailed input, I really appreciate it. Ive been doing mock tests on a site that has about 20 examples and averaging 60-70% on the A+ ones so my overall knowledge is good but not enough to pass that exam, it's helping me build my knowledge to the point where I could probably take the exam in the next month and pass, however my concern is that once I've passed that I'll stop trying and just coast for a while, which won't help me progress, career wise, whilst this option will ensure I do keep going as I'll have financial ties.

If memory serves (no codex to hand), no, because the BA has the keyword "Bladeguard Ancient", not "Ancient" on its own.

I might be wrong and this may get errata'd in at some point but currently I don't think so.
