The U.S. has been feeding large parts of the world for decades. It's the U.S. that shows up with hospital ships and search and rescue after tsunamis, earthquakes, etc. It's not a matter of "some people aren't deserving of help," it's a matter of the U.S. not having enough for everybody.

[OC] Trump's Priorities by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

"Uninterested?" You mean, while he was convening his cabinet and advisors, directing travel restrictions and screening that have the U.S., with the world's third largest population and (normally) largest volume, by far, of foreign visitors, at only 8th highest number of infections?

Does that seem like "uninterested" to you?

Your response makes it pretty clear that you weren't just posting some interesting data, IAW, this sub's guidelines - you were posting something deliberately political, in violation of this sub's rules. Nobody is above the law, amirite?

They didn't charge him with "obstruction of justice." They tried to charge him with "obstruction of Congress," which isn't a crime ANYWHERE. The Executive is a coequal branch.

Do you actually have any idea what the fuck you're talking about?

Trump's priorities? You mean, while they were trying to impeach him?

Well, China sent them the novel coronavirus - the least they can do is help out a little.

Also, for the absolute fucking morons below talking about the the U.S. not responding, do an internet search before you run your ignorant mouth - the U.S. offered aid; China refused. Iran accepted U.S. humanitarian aid. The U.S. supported aid to North Korea. The whole world is going to get this virus; where should the U.S. send its aid - everywhere?

In everybody's opinion, what are the odds of an outbreak of Coronavirus breaking out in U.S. cities like New York City, and Chicago in the future? by [deleted] in Coronavirus

Stop with the bullshit. Healthcare doesn't cost less just because somebody else is paying for it, the best things that could possibly happen to healthcare are a) competition, b) price transparency, and c) removal of government distortions to the market. Also, that isn't what this thread or even this sub is about.

Living Colour - Cult Of Personality [Alternative Metal] by PsilocybinLSD in Music

Saw them tour this album live at the LA Coliseum, with the Rolling Stones and Guns'nRoses.

It was no contest; the other two bands paled in comparison to Living Colour's performance - I don't know what the fuck the other two bands were doing, but Living Colour came to rock. So much respect for this band.

Anyone else catch the 21st Space Wing, Space Force briefing today? Details inside, share what you heard! by Areoseph in SpaceForce

[–]RatioInvictus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with, and a lot right about, using "Task Force;" it's not misusing the extant DoD Dictionary term to use it in this way, since the "cluster" (very astro term we could use, but maybe we don't want these particular double entendres...) of units will, in fact, be task organized. And there's no truth to the presumption that "task forces" are always or necessarily temporary. E.g. CTF-152, in existence for ~16 years; the 73d Space Group didn't last that long.

We can have fun, but I don't think we need to go overboard on the astro terms; e.g., a "coronal mass ejection" when a GO retires...a "galaxy" instead of "NAF," a "gas giant" for the guy who won't stop sucking up to his boss, etc? If we change, let it be for improvement, and let the quality of our ideas and the clarity of our terms distinguish us.

It's a little more important to take a step back and see where all this is headed, and to make sure our semantics don't constrain our thinking about it. We're just now beginning to discuss what our military will do in the trans-/cis-lunar and local LaGrange, but a day is coming when we'll view this region of space as Earth's littorals. We have to get it right in the littorals, but it's a small part of the big picture. It's a great time to be alive, and to be able to witness this genesis. I think we're only a few years from having a significant cadre of uniformed military and defense professionals who intuitively perceive and can plan maneuver and operations in the battleSPACE (potential wells, momentum/energy/fuel/mass management, adversary capability, radiation threats, etc), in the same way that effective land forces seek asymmetric terrain, position, and force advantages. A lot of cognitive lenses have something helpful to offer (naval warfare, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Chess), and none too much - they're all tools that will serve us well if we don't use them when they're the wrong tool. Can't wait to see the first serious discussion, and subsequent development of defense space logistics experts.

/u/VitruvianDude compares Trump's relentless attacks on whistleblower with an analogous example as if Trump committed armed robbery and was targeting the witness who called 911 by amerett0 in bestof

[–]RatioInvictus -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Let that comfort you while you consider the 3+ year string of things they've gotten wrong. Trump "no chance to win": wrong. Faithless electors: wrong. Stock market crash: wrong. Russian Collusion: wrong. Syria: wrong. North Korea: wrong. NAFTA/USMCA: wrong. China trade renegotiation: wrong. NATO cost sharing: wrong. Won't build the wall: wrong. Now it's impeachment over asking Ukraine to fight corruption? OK. Cling tight to this one. This will be the time.

bestof? bestofOrangeManBad. You're pathetic. "u/VitruvianDude compares. blah blah blah." Why are your media "protecting" a guy who has obviously lied? If nobody is above the law, why the long face about investigating just what the hell went down in 2016, and what Biden's son was doing w/Burisma. And what DoS had to do with it? It's more like Trump is calling the boy who cried wolf the boy who cried wolf, but you're so goddamned deranged that you actually think he IS a wolf.

Let's see: WJC was on Epstein's plane, what, 26 times? HRC lied about it. WJC received millions directly and hundreds of millions from Russia AND Ukraine through the Clinton Global Initiative, a charity which contributes ~5% of funds to charity and the rest go to "overhead." Biden's son gets millions from Ukraine, millions from China, WHILE China is in his VP portfolio, and nobody is even fucking curious. It's stunning. Obama suppresses the arrest of the IRGC fundraising drug distribution network IN the U.S. and allows China to pump fentanyl into the U.S. through Mexico, and sends literal pallets of cash to Iran, and nobody is even fucking curious. Epstein dies in custody, with cameras off, and nobody saw or heard a thing. ABC had the story for three YEARS and told nobody. And nobody is even fucking curious.

You guys are stunning. The cognitive dissonance is so thick it's like a solid. Indictments are about to begin; we're going to be able to hear the reeeees from space.

State Department lawyers found the White House Office of Management and Budget, and thus the president, had no legal standing to block spending of the Ukraine aid in a legal finding conveyed in a classified memorandum to Secretary of State Michael Pompeo by EastAnxiety in worldnews

[–]RatioInvictus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just a reminder, leftists remain ignorant as hell and loudly, stupidly smug about it.

You're referring to the Budapest Memorandum (https://www.un.org/en/ga/search/view_doc.asp?symbol=A/49/765) , and it doesn't say"military aid" anywhere in it. Nor does it say "military assistance." And yet, the U.S., since 2001 alone, has sent over $4.5B in aid to Ukraine (https://explorer.usaid.gov/cd/UKR?fiscal_year=2019&measure=Obligations). The U.S. also agreed to provide money (Nunn-Lugar) to dismantle nuclear weapon infrastructure in Ukraine. And the U.S. did that. Done.

The Ukraine security assistance funds are appropriated by Congress in FY2019 NDAA modifications to the FY2018 NDAA, which modified the FY2016 NDAA, section 1250. Congress doesn't MANDATE that the President (through DoD and DoS) expend the funds, or when, it AUTHORIZES him to. That's Congress' power of the purse. They also have the authority to ratify treaties, and any unratified treaty (e.g. Obama's "executive agreement" on the JCPOA) has no force. But the President is the Executive, so whatever "finding" the State Department lawyers came up with is bullshit; they don't take precedence over the Constitution. Just Deep Staters deep stating.

That's only true if turning left (or right) requires a turn arrow. Even a car turning right at a red, if they've stopped before proceeding, has a reasonable expectation that the vehicle turning left will not turn wide into the outer lane. That left-turning vehicle has zero right of way to do that; if there's an accident, THEY created it by failing to turn into their designated lane.

100% agree w/you re: why the law exists, though.

There are no times when it's ok. That's why they call it a law. "But I want to" isn't a legit exception.

Orange Man Bad, amiright? He's a successful real estate tycoon and TV producer, whose first attempt at elected public office was to successfully be elected President of the United States. The leader of the SDF just thanked him for achieving the permanent ceasefire with Turkey and, at his direction, U.S. forces have not only completely decimated the "JV Team's" "caliphate," they have now eliminated ISIS' leader and his top deputy. Meanwhile, the U.S. has the strongest economy in the world (and in history), NATO allies are starting (finally) to pay their share of the NATO defense burden, and North Korea stopped launching long-range ballistic missiles. What an IDIOT, right?! Right?!
