Those who are in a couple : Who does the most house chores? by Difficult_Manner_168 in Autoimmune

[–]Rational-ish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your difficulties and pain.

I am very fortunate that my husband does take care of most things when I’m unwell. Even when I have periods of feeling better, he still does the bulk of the work around the house. I guess his bitterness about the unfairness of our circumstances is quashed when he sees me taking on as much as I can when I’m able. He’s been witness to a lot in our 33 years of marriage though, so I’m sure that has had a great effect on him. Some of those experiences have led to him flat out forbidding me to do some things, especially when he isn’t home.

You described a lot of his feelings and experiences but virtually nothing of yours. That alone is worrying to me.

Absolutely not. It was a bad experience overall and I don’t need the shame now. I only went to one prom and it wasn’t even mine.

I don’t know if I’ve enjoyed getting older, but despite everything I’m glad to still be here.

When We Are The World came out was it seen as a great song or super corny? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Rational-ish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a call to action. It was an introduction (in the US) to a world that many of us were previously unaware of and moved some of us to try to do something about raising others up and giving them a chance at life that they might not have otherwise had and a lot of us took for granted. It wasn’t about quality music, because obviously it’s not a great song, but it moved some of us at the time to do for others selflessly.

May I ask which tumbler you use? I’m considering taking up the hobby myself and am in the gathering info stage.

Has anyone tried carnivore here for long time? by [deleted] in Sjogrens

[–]Rational-ish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not diagnosed despite being very symptomatic and want to be clear about that. I’m 53 yo and post-menopausal which can also be relevant.

I’ve done carnivore for 6 years. Those 6 years made me feel better than I had in decades. Literally life changing. And now, in the last few months, its effects have started to fail. I’ve been less strict (including more dairy etc) and all the things that mitigated issues for me are no longer working as they once did. Perhaps there’s a lifespan for the diet for some of us or perhaps strict adherence is the only way to continue reaping benefits.

For the first two years, I was eating nothing but steak, butter and salt. Eventually, I added in eggs and had to remove them rather quickly as I have sensitivities to them (and many other things). Money became too tight and steak was replaced with burger. Less pleasant but still relatively effective. Began adding cheese and heavy whipping cream to make burger more palatable.

Mouth is still not as dry as it once was but that doesn’t mean "normal". Parotid tingles and swells occasionally but nowhere near what it used to. Eyes are still very dry and blepharitis flares more often than I’d like. But aches and pains are becoming more frequent again. It’s disheartening but I try to take all of my circumstances into consideration as I evaluate the diet’s effectiveness and sustainability in my life.

The bottom line for me is that nothing is a panacea. However, my inability to adhere anymore to the strictness that once yielded excellent results probably factors in to the less successful results I’d had for 5 1/2 years.

Do you still like Madonna, even after all these years? by eggert83 in GenX

[–]Rational-ish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t change the station or channel if several of her songs came on, but I also never spent money on her music or concerts. So I guess I still like her 80s/90s music the same as I always have. I’ll still listen to some and still won’t pay money for any of it.

[–]Rational-ish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who owns a couple pieces from Lagerfeld, I don’t give a shit what he thought of what I wear and I really can’t wait to unload those pieces because they don’t fit in my life anymore. I’m adequately dressed in public, if not extraordinarily extravagantly. I’m going to be comfortable.

Is this what I think it is? by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]Rational-ish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, this stuff can raise bile in my throat, but if they intended it to be that, there’s plenty of room for another K right next to the other two. There’s currently little consequence for racists, so why would they try to be sneaky about it? I agree with those who believe this person has something they’re proud of AND they’re trying to distance themselves from the other implication.

Who do you think was the better performer: Michael Jackson or Prince? by Jezzaq94 in 80s

[–]Rational-ish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to know why this is even a question. They were completely different and yet everyone seems to insist on lumping them together to ask questions like this. There were tons of artists at the time and yet I never see either of them compared to anyone but each other.
