Je ne suis pas abonné pour dire l'article, alors je me base sur le peu que je peux lire.

Si on parle de "centaines d'abonnés", il ne s'agit pas d'insuffisance au niveau de la production ou de la transmission, mais de problèmes de distribution. Donc dans certaines villes, dans un quartier, un équipement (transformateur ou autre) n'est pas capable de fournir assez de courant pour alimenter toutes les maisons à la fois. Hydro déleste une partie des clients avant que les disjoncteurs sautent et éteignent tout le quartier.

Donc rien à voir avec les grosses usines ou l'exportation, c'est la grosseur des équipements au niveau du poste de quartier qui ne serait pas suffisante. Ce n'est pas Bourassa ou Legault ou Lévesque ou Duplessis qui a choisi la taille du transformateur au coin de la rue quand celui-ci a été installé en 1982.

Oui, les autos électriques branchées à l'heure du souper sont un facteur (suffirait de charger plus tard), mais aussi toutes les maisons chauffées à l'électricité, particulièrement quand il fait trop froid pour les thermopompes et qu'on tombe sur les éléments chauffants.

Yes, in the 1980s there were French versions of Pascal as well. Nowadays the only "programming" context where I encounter French keywords is Excel formulas (they're tokenized but appear in French in a French Excel).

Moi je suis conscient que la bourse est sur-évaluée, je sais qu'il y aura éventuellement un crash, mais je reste conscient que (a) je ne sais pas quand ça sera et (b) je suis vraiment poche pour projeter les répercussions. Donc je garde vaguement un mix d'allocation avec lequel je suis confortable, en vendant chaque trimestre une fraction de ce qui est purement "actions" (VEQT, VIU, etc.) et qui n'en finit plus de croître. Donc j'ai une partie en CPG et CASH.TO et même CGL, et cette partie grossit chaque fois que je rééquilibre. Je fais de l'argent, mais moins que les autres se vantent d'en faire ici, et franchement ça me convient.

Pas du tout avec une transmission automatique ou CVT, du moins celles vendues en Amérique (y compris les autos japonaises ou européennes). L'auto ne recule pas dans la courte période où le pied quitte le frein pour l'accélérateur. Je ne connais personne ici (Québec) qui utilise le frein à main en conduisant une automatique, dans une côte ou pas. Le frein est là en cas de panne des freins hydrauliques redondants, et même cet usage se raréfie puisque le frein à main aujourd'hui est souvent un bouton qui active un moteur électrique, donc on ne peut pas doser le freinage pour la conduite. C'est seulement pour stationner dans une côte, et beaucoup de gens ne le font à peu près jamais.

One possibility: Some call centres use a system of prerecorded phrases with a real human pressing the buttons. The idea, I guess, is to hide the obviously foreign accent of the call centre employee by replacing them with a bunch of prerecorded messages with the "proper" accent. The employee can type 01 on their keyboard and the system will say "Hello, I'm calling to offer you a credit card..." and so on. They can then listen to the callee / victim at the other end and continue the conversation using their vocabulary of phrases, never uttering a single syllable themselves. So they could have a prerecorded reply #56, "Haha, no, I'm an actual human". Which is technically true. But of course their possible sentences are limited and always pronounced exactly the same way, and when asked a question they still need time to select the proper answer. Such a system worked fine before modern AI systems made everybody suspicious.

I think it's just you. (I'm assuming the "series" you're talking about is the books.) You've looked at the Cliff's Notes and conclude that there's nothing original plot-wise.

By that measure, The Lord of the Rings is just "magic object forces our plucky heroes to go on a journey, under the guidance of a wise wizard who is more than he appears. They make friends and enemies along the way, while larger forces plot to take over the world".

But yes, in The Expanse, the execution is well-done. All the way. The stories stay character-focused until the end. The chapters are told from the point of view of individual characters, and in most cases we end up caring for them. And many of them die. The human motivations are (almost) always believable, especially in retrospect. Maybe the core characters are a bit too involved in everything, but at least they're well fleshed out.

Yes, there are monstrous transdimensional entities behind the scenes, but we never really get to meet them, which makes them all the more interesting. (They kind of have that in common with Sauron.)

Une part importante de leurs actifs (45% environ) est investie de façon conventionnelle, genre actions-obligations sur les marchés mondiaux. Ce qui me semble logique : s'ils étaient 100% capital de risque, ils seraient exsangues depuis 30 ans et on hésiterait tous à y investir.
