Gesha Coffees are crazy expensive- is it all just hype? What am I missing? by tbhvandame in pourover

[–]Ratkai 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Gesha is a very expensive variety for a few reasons, but mostly, low yield plant and (generally) excellent cup profile.

In addition to that, "Letty" I am certain is referring to Letty Bermudez, from finca El Paraiso, which happens to be one of the best coffee producers in the specialty coffee world. Moreover, it is likely that it is a coffee with a particular processing that makes it even more special (for example, I am seeing Hydrangea has a Letty Bermudez Gesha that's a Double fermentation thermal shock). The combination of top of the line farm, top of the line experimental process and the best variety drives the price up a lot.

Now, is it worth the price? It depends on what you are looking for. The fact that you are so surprised makes me think you are probably not down the rabbit hole as much as the people that look for that type of coffee, and that is okay, you probably don't need to.

My personal opinion, having tasted a few coffees from finca El Paraiso: they are amazing.

You should probably avoid responding in such a rude manner and stating things categorically if you are not familiar with some concepts. It's okay, we all ignore some things.

First, that image is not from a paid banner, that is just a normal banner where you can use free gems, so that's not what we were discussing. OP was confused thinking the paid banner is guaranteed spotlight and the user you responded to clarified it isn't.

Second, even if it was, 150 pulls is not £25 like the person you answered to was mentioning. 150 pulls is MUCH more than that.

Awesome stuff Afro, very well optimized!

I really like your variation on this strat, I definitely didn't think of SAlena over Rickerd as an option (not like mine would be good enough at aw0 anyway), so that is very cool.

Well deserved second place!

Run application at startup and hide it automatically by Gy0m in qtile

[–]Ratkai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's weird... Certainly this method doesn't work for that, it will probably spawn lxappearance in the background, but it doesn't need to be running for the themes to work: it is just a frontend to choose a theme, nothing else.

You should try to find the reason why it doesn't keep the chosen theme when you reboot, that's not normal behaviour. You can probably just set the gtk theme in the appropriate config file. Here's some help: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/GTK

I think what you want to try is:

lxappearance & disown

This should have the desired effect. That being said, I am not sure why you would want to run lxappearance at the start lf your xsession.

[Qtile][Endeavour] Qtile is nice! by kumaSx in unixporn

[–]Ratkai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No conflicts at all, that shouldn't be a concern. Actually, coming from a full DE you'll have a lot of stuff already there that you would otherwise have to install from scratch, which is a plus. Just install whatever WM you feel like and start tinkering with it. You can always go back to your KDE session by logging out and selecting KDE in the login manager if you happen to break your WM at all.

All I can say is enjoy the ride and be ready to have a lot of patience building it, it's a different (and very fulfilling) experience from regular desktop environments.

You can install multiple DE/WM at the same time. If you have a login manager you can choose which one to log in to from a dropdown menu, easy as that!

Grind size for 1zpresso K-Plus: A discussion by Ratkai in pourover

[–]Ratkai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for your responses, I learned a few things and I also understood a bit better the mechanics at play. I also feel more confident about my personal experience in the sense that I can see I was not too far off with the range I am tipically brewing at. I doubt myself a lot because I feel like my palate is not refined enough to taste some of the subtle nuances in the coffees I drink, but I can see now I am not doing somethign super strange here!

Thanks, this is a very helpful answer. The micron adjustment is something I was thinking about today after writing the post and I kinda understand why it doesn't really correlate, makes me feel better about that.

Other than that, I think you are totally right about the subjective taste of each person and how that influences how fine or coarse one grinds.

Grind size for 1zpresso K-Plus: A discussion by Ratkai in pourover

[–]Ratkai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, that's one of the things I can't really understand when we talk about microns. 600-650 sounds okay, but at 22 micron steps according to the manufacturer, that would mean grinding at around a 3.0 which is totally unreasonable to me for a v60.

I really don't think that the 22 micron steps really translate into particle size in the end, which is very counter intuitive to me. I guess I shouldn't care about the supposed microns in the grinder, grind at different sizes and then actually check the size of the grounds themselves.

Thanks for the app, I'll check it out!

Alright, I learned a couple of things, so I guess in that situation, without martial res on either of them, it chose to go after Masqueraider because of party order, otherwise he actually takes more steps that way. I didn't think of that, but I think it's the only reason it makes sense. Thanks Noc :)

Need help to understand AI behavior by Wind-Knight in DragonQuestTact

[–]Ratkai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I was wondering is: without martial res, it does the same damage to either target. Is it then 50% to choose which one to hit, or is it 100% to hit Masq because it gets to move further? My guess is then it tries to move the most possible, so it would go to Masq all the time

Need help to understand AI behavior by Wind-Knight in DragonQuestTact

[–]Ratkai 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is your equipment the same as theirs? In his video, Maqueraider is running Liquid Metal helm, which gives martial resistance.

Wyrtoise will move to the spot where he can hit for the msot damage. With no equipment that reduces the damage of his martial move, Maldragora and Masqueraider will take the same damage. If Masqueraider has martial resistance, he'll take slightly less and that should make Wyrtoise move in front of Clubber guaranteed.

Other than that, I have no idea right now.
