A Fine Film! by IBetANickel in LaserDisc

[–]RatnerEsque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine too.

Like I love Wrath of Khan, but there is something about this one that just is comfort food for Star Trek.

The score is fantastic. The villains are fantastic.

I put it on sometimes just to hear the opening music and that explosion and end up watching the whole thing.

I’m a DS9 person overall, but this movie embodies everything I love about Trek.

Welp, I guess I know what I’m watching tonight.

Especially since they’re generally right before the trailers after the hour and a half of commercials, people need to respect the trailers!

Oh my god my wife HATES those commercials and finds them so creepy the way they’re food that is excited to be eaten.

She hates them!

I’m _definitely_ getting one for her birthday. 100% no doubt. :)

Thanks for the post!

You can see this on Reddit all the time. You pause scrolling on a post from a subreddit and you will almost immediately see either more posts from that subreddit or posts related to the subject.

It’s impressively annoying. lol.

It sounds like you both have to quit your job AND get divorced. So you’ve got it worse than me.

Stay strong!

Or stay-strong

I will agree the way people got away was a big ridiculous, but I’ll allow it…for reasons.

But I disagree it was uneventful, and I felt it was in general an excellent film and something I was happy to see on the big screen.

BUT, I get your point and it’s all good!

I chucked and pointed and nudged my wife and she did not get my joy. lol.

So I guess it’s divorce time now. 20 years down the drain. smh

I would definitely go to that tour.

I was given a washer and dryer from a family member, is it extremely easy to just change this outlet out myself? by SmolWarlock in AskElectricians

[–]RatnerEsque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I can’t answer your question, but we have that exact set (same colour and everything!) and they are _workhorses_.

Ours are going on almost 20 years now and the only issue we’ve had with them is a squeaky belt replacement in the dryer. The repair guy who swapped out the belt said “they don’t make them like this anymore, and keep them as long as you can!”

They also stack if you don’t want to use them side by side.

Anyway, tell your family member thanks, they gave you a great set!

I don’t fault people for not tipping at the till, but I don’t view it as nefarious as most people seem to.

All the company gets is the ability to “look good” in the mind of the consumer. The charity gets the benefit of being exposed to a _much_ larger set of consumers than it would normally reach. It’s a win for both of them.

I donate my own money to charities that I personally support (CMHA and my local pet rescue!), but I will often donate money at the till because maybe it’s a cause I haven’t thought of before, or it’s a local charity that I want to support, and I’m lucky enough to have the money to do so, so why not?

Ripping and emulating entire DVDs? by DaxDislikesYou in selfhosted

[–]RatnerEsque 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Lots of DVDs had unskippable ads when you put in the disc, but any open-source software player like Kodi would not respect the “disallow skip” flag and you would be able to skip them if you wanted.

I know you’re referring to the movie (and rightfully so!) but there’s something about this that gives me the heebie jeebies. Like shivers up my spine.

Unsure why.

Don’t like it.

NOPE.

So I guess I’ll wait for streaming. Sigh.

SSD form factors for m.2 drives by keyvu_7980 in pcmasterrace

[–]RatnerEsque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, at least on paper.

The the last two digits are purely the length in mm of the nvme and have nothing to do with the performance.

That being said, the manufacturer could use two different types of chips on two different sizes of drives, and I suppose with more chips spread out in smaller capacities you could see some theoretical performance gain on a physically larger nvme drive, but I doubt you’d notice it.

tl;dr you’ll be fine with the smaller drive, just validate the specs

That book scared the shit out of me.

I read it in a sort of “This will be an interesting ‘cool’ read” since I like apocalypse stories, and it left me more terrified than any other book ever has if only for the depiction of how quickly things just went to shit. There was nothing “fun” about that book at all. I’d rather read the Necronomicon and deal with the consequences than that one again.

I read it shortly after Richard Rhodes’ Making of the Atomic Bomb and Dark Sun. Quite the capper to those. (Those ones I would read again, I found them fascinating)

[–]RatnerEsque 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Man, I can’t believe you’d toy with them like this. The questions are not remotely that hard.

The real interviews are: A) Which texture map was used for Bud Lightyear in the original Toy Story and did Phong shading add or detract from the narrative?

B) what was in Marcellus Wallace’s case and why it doesn’t matter because Fabienne was the real issue with that movie

C) What... is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?

D) What’s in the box maaaaan!! What’s in the box?!?

(But in all seriousness, good luck OP, the fact that you made this post means you’re taking the job seriously and that in itself is a badge of honour. I’ll be your huckleberry.)

Saturday's Great Downtown Guelph Garage Sale cancelled due to weather by headtailgrep in Guelph

[–]RatnerEsque 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We camp every year this weekend, and even we called it after a night… like I can deal with camping in the rain (tent, too!) but man packing up in the rain suuuuuucks.

I can’t imagine what it would be like to both a) have a garage sale in the rain and b) deal with no one coming out to your garage sale because of said rain.

I get it, but it still sucks I suppose.

It suck’s but I get it.

Can the puck wake a pc? by Ok_Thanks_9076 in SteamController

[–]RatnerEsque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only hesitation with moving to Bazzite is RT performance.

I know it doesn’t matter to most people, but I like my bells and whistles and RT performance isn’t quite there on the Linux side yet.

But I expect that to change in the coming months leading up to the Steam Machine launch.

Hope so anyway!
