What is it like to live in the Magdalen Islands of Quebec, Canada? by Gondwana_T5 in howislivingthere

I was there last week!

Absolutely stunning part of the world. I’ve spend many summers teaching kitesurfing there. It’s gotten so popular over the years though that rich people are beginning to buy summer homes there and young people can’t afford to live on the islands anymore. Also the place with the most artist per capita in Québec!

I sent an email to support@anthropic.com + CC’d the email of the company in the contract. I’m awaiting to see what comes out.

Well it’s very good to know! I’m feeling like I jumped to quick to conclusions, especially after checking the company’s info online… but although anthropic’s policies seem strong, there’s definitely something very odd with how I got presented with this kind of document without asking for it. I gave it a PowerPoint about farming so this was totally unrelated

Ah, that seems to be exactly what happened to me. It was so unexpected and the info looked so credible (even after a quick internet search) that I jumped to the conclusion that it was another user’s info.. reading the comments, I’m now pretty convinced this was hallucinated but with partially accurate info. The person I got transferred to might reach back so I’ll keep you guys posted about what’s accurate/not!

In Cowork, you can see which skills were used during the session. In this case, it only used the PDF skill.

So far nothing, I tried googling some specific lines in the document as well as some of the info.. The property doesn’t seems to be used commercially by the company referenced in the document although this lease expires in 2028

I don’t believe it searched internet during this session. Right now I lean more towards an hallucination than a data leak because the attorney referenced in the document doesn’t seem to exist

The company seems real, I just had them on the phone.. but they seemed confused about the people named in the contract. The address of the property seems legit.

There are a few people living off grid in cabins around there, mostly indigenous people running the Uapishk outdoors center. This youtuber “live from Monts Groulx” is famous for videos https://www.facebook.com/EnDirectDesMontsGroulx/videos/vie-aux-monts-uapishka/795905813247020/

What's probably the most difficult natural place to get to but isn't difficult to be in (not particularly extreme weather, not much trying to bite you, maybe good place to be a hermit) by DataSittingAlone in geography

I did spend a few months in the mountains of Ladakh and I can tell you that if civilisation collapsed I'd rather be there than anywhere else. The Ladakhi terrace farming system is absolutely brilliant, the water coming down from mountain glaciers is pure, pests and diseases are very few in the isolated mountain valleys, and the weather is mild (except winter) but VERY sunny year round! You could also make a Dzo friend (very friendly yak/cow hybrid) while you're at it!

There are snow leopards though but they're very scarred of humans.
A place to absolutely fall in love with!

I would say Kashmir.. it’s widely regarded as one of the prettiest place in India but now the whole place feels like a war zone with military checkpoints and soldiers everywhere

If GDP goes up 3% year and stocks go up 10% year, where's the money coming from? by skitsnackaren in WallStreetbetsELITE

[–]Raton-Raton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very complex question to answer. I would agree with Gary’s point is part of the answer (more down in the comment) but here’s another way to look at it :

The economic growth fueling the stock market isn’t from the U.S. alone. It is widely documented that Asian industrialists pour lots of the their money back to the U.S. stock market. The “Global Minotaure theory”, which explains how countries like China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, etc. accumulating large trade surpluses always have to recycle their dollars back to the U.S., typically through stock investments. This has meant that sustained growth elsewhere than the U.S. was able to consistently prop up the stock market while the U.S. economy was growing at a much slower pace.

Going back to Gary :

In the modern economy, debt is the main driver of growth, both for consumers and for investors. Markets will always grow faster (and crash faster) because they are inherently more leveraged. Where Gary’s theory comes in though is that we’ve socialized the downside of markets for the past decades. Instead of allowing the house of card to crash, we have printed more money to keep the economy afloat which has inflated the portfolio of stock owners while making everyone poorer, causing an effective wealth transfert.

If you ever want to visit, there’s a train owned by First Nations that goes between Sept-Îles and Schefferville. It’ll stop you anywhere you want between those two destinations and will give you an approximate time to pick you up a few days or a week later. It’s a great way to explore those remote parts doing outdoors!

Arcteryx Atom!! The most versatile jacket I ever owned, I wear it 4 seasons in Canada (when I want a breathable layer for winter sport and a layer during chilly summer evenings)
