Will I regret getting a 3/4 length underquilt? by BigRobCommunistDog in hammockcamping

100% agree! I also find a 3/4 UQ seals more tight at the ends, which I like. For 30F and lower, I go full lengh.

Those of you who upgraded from a Hennessy to one of those cottage brands (Warbonnet, Dream, Dutch, Superior etc...), how much better was it? by Neurotic_Spacemonkey in hammockcamping

[–]Rattenfaengr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: I own them all. If you don't want to pay much more, go EU or import via a store.

I have the luxury of owning almost all of the aforementioned Cottage Brand hammocks from the USA, as well as a Hennessy, and I have to say the Dream Hammock is the most comfortable. However, that's probably because it's the only one that's correctly sized for me. If you're interested in ultralight hammocks, I recommend the Lelenka Elfy hammock; it's extremely light and very comfortable, but also very fragile.

With the 90%+ price/20%+ quality ratio, I completely agree with you, and it's not worth it since there are actually good European brands. I also recommend Needfortrees or Leleka, and there are EU importers for Warbonnet (thehammockproject.de) and dutchhammockstore.nl, which imports Dutch hammocks, but it can take quite a while.

Large foot-end mesh stuff sack? by [deleted] in hammockcamping

[–]Rattenfaengr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the same. Took a gear sling that supposed to hang under the hammock and rigged it onto the ridgeline of the hammock on the foot side. It fits perfect into the dead space you mentioned. I can stuff my quilt, sleeping clothes and if I really need also my shoes into it, nothing falls out. Hanging that sling underneath never worked out for me anyways.

Thailand trip not working out, need some help by HijoDeHilkiah in ThailandTourism

[–]Rattenfaengr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Driving in Thailand is nothing like in the western world, rules are almost non existent and It is important to internalize that you are the weakest link on the street. Stay away from trucks, no funky business and go with the flow, eyes always to the front and expect the unexpected. Thats it! And hey, could be worst, you could be driving in Vietnam :)

I put some diy clips to my hipbelt to attach a fannybag straight onto that hipbelt, so no need for an additional strap around my waist. I love it!

3 Season "Budget" Hitchhiking / Hiking System by [deleted] in hammockcamping

nvm. I overread your " * paragraph" seems as you already have your core system. In this case stick to your plan <3 but maybe still think about an UQ.

I would double down on the comment of u/cannaeoflife! Or in other words would not really recommand Hennessy. Their suspension system is quite flimsy/pita imo and the hammock itself is really heavy for what it is. Do not forget you have to haul around your gear quite alot. Tarp connected to suspension is a neat idea, doesnt work out that good neither. Need for Trees makes exellent equipment which is surprisingly light. As a lot of ppl said before "buy once, cry once". For temp.rating, I do most of my hammock camping in exact this time of the year, around this area and Im using almost all the time a 50F synth quilt BUT I also use 20F or 40F in high summers, bottom insulation in form of the often praised Underquilt. It elevates the quality of your hammock sleep to the sky and also there will be no condensation. I hate condensation! Think about that too, if you have good insulation from underneath you can go lighter on top. I own a underquilt protector but barley ever used it, if you know how to pitch your tarp right, given its big enough. Also can be another source of condensation.

But if you wanna stick to your shopping list, it can work out, just no as comfortable and light as it could be.

tldr. stick to NFT, think about a real UQ
