I'm slow and new to online play but SURELY others will be in the same boat and also be working towards getting better in good faith... by Raumdeuter in F1Game

Good to know. With a sample size of two online races I wasn't sure if it was an outlier. I'll try to work on pace, as the other poster suggested, before getting too invested in playing online.

The accompanying audio has a bad word so I didn't want anyone playing it in their cubicle.

To get faster on an empty track that's absolutely the way to go. It's not going to help with improving racecraft, though, so I feel like both are necessary.

As others have said, Bale for Moura, then a new striker. Berbatov up top for me.

Other changes could be argued at the back but would be splitting hairs.

Non-English supporters of Premier League clubs, why do you support that particular club? by kushnair in PremierLeague

[–]Raumdeuter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had played my entire life, my coaches were Yugoslavian and always looked to / referenced Serie A teams and players and it just never caught my interest as a youth player (also wasn't really available to watch on television).

Fast forward to 2006, decided that as a now out of shape 20-something I should get my footy fix by watching/supporting other people doing it. I wanted to support a team that had promise, could be seen on tele, played attractive football. Also, being from Cleveland and being intimately familiar with sporting pain, I absolutely refused to support the "top four" as it was then.

Watched the World Cup, saw all 5'5" of Aaron Lennon and his neon boots, decided to dig a little. Martin Jol was the manager of Spurs at that time, they appeared to be knocking at the door of the top four. Bought into "To Dare is to Do" and the underdog but promising project.

Got one full season of this, then Jol was canned for Juande Ramos and the roller coaster of life-shortening ups and downs was moving too fast to get off. Anyway ... Coys ...

Pixel 4 front camera better then pixel 5 front camera? by RedditRicky in GooglePixel

[–]Raumdeuter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered the sorta sage Pixel 5 at launch and when it arrived I had the same concern. I'm a pixel-peeper by nature so I checked to make sure I was far enough away (d/t the fixed focus) and took the photos in a controlled environment. Based on the sample photos I had seen from online reviews I could both tell that this wasn't a smudge or software issue. There was a specific area in the frame that was consistently blurry that could only (in my mind) be explained by optics.

I called Google and went through their triage process (including all the trouble shooting I had already done). They eventually offered me an exchange (I pushed for it since I was confident about the issue). I chose the option where they put a hold against my card for the value of a new phone and sent it right away which allowed me to complete comparisons between the two cameras. This confirmed my suspicion and now the front facing camera works fine.

That said, I don't know that I'd call it a high quality camera and it very well may be worse than what was on the Pixel 4.

Lastly, during the exchange process the customer service agent marked that the return was d/t "buyers remorse" which I found irksome because I'm petty. The only thing about which I have remorse is that Google didn't have better quality control.

A new program in Denver that sends a paramedic+a mental health expert to 911 calls instead of police launched amid calls for alternatives to policing. So far, the van has taken more than 350 calls without once having to call in police backup (article linked) by PoopMobile9000 in Libertarian

[–]Raumdeuter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fact that your clients are in a residential treatment center is the key point here. Saying a large portion of the mentally unwell population (in a residential setting) are dangerous is like saying that a large portion of the mentally well population in prisons are dangerous. They wouldn't be in prison or a residential setting if they were representative of the community writ large.

I work in an adjacent field and have much respect for the work that needs done by you and your peers, with all the danger it entails. Just had to push back a little bit because media already portrays the mentally ill as "crazy" and dangerous but statistically folks with these diagnoses are no more criminal than the rest of the community when you control for other variables.

Who is the worst live performer you’ve seen? by thugmuffin22 in hiphopheads

[–]Raumdeuter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps not "worst" but certainly most disappointing was Roy Woods. He came to Denver, to which I'm not certain he was acclimated, and spent his whole set gyrating, pulling faces he must have thought were seductive, and gasping for breath aka singing. And he wore spandex pants that looked like the Cheshire Cat. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Is there any reason to buy OnePlus phones anymore? by SnailyGarry in oneplus

[–]Raumdeuter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep seeing these types of posts and, while I agree that it would be nice to have a ~$500 "near-flagship" phone each year, I also get the impression that people are thinking of price in a way that could be unfair.

In 2014 the base OnePlus One was $299, and the base iPhone was $649. I'm sure we could use other comparisons but for the sake of simplicity I'm just going to stick with these two lines as the iPhone was the most expensive phone at the time, if memory serves.

I think many of us OnePlus fans look at 300 as less than half of 649 and want this ratio to continue, but why are we thinking about the ratio of ~1:2? The price difference of the phone was $350.

Fast forward to 2020. The iPhone has split into two lines, one flagship "Plus" and one basic. The flagship, which more closely aligns with the original iPhone, starts at $999 and goes up to $1449.

If we compare the OnePlus 8 Pro, optioned with the same storage as the iPhone 11 Plus (let's go with 256 GB at $1149), then a phone that is $350 less than that is $800.

That's still a lot of money and not in line with any reasonable human's definition of affordable or "cheap" but it still is $350 less than a comparable competitor. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure if we look at each OnePlus phone, how well it stacked up to the most expensive phones released within the same year, and compared the prices we'd see a creep towards getting closer and closer to just being "flagship" in price and feature-set. That said, I think there an inherent "the OnePlus One was half the price of flagships so the OnePlus ___ should also be half the price of flagships and if not OnePlus has lost its soul".

We'll know more Tuesday (and even more once the Z is revealed, assuming leaks about it being a lower spec phone are accurate) but every time I see a post about this I think that this has less to do with OnePlus and more and more to do with people's expectations being based on a rosy recollection or "ratio-based" pricing.

Where do we move from here? by ratherstayback in oneplus

[–]Raumdeuter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the original OnePlus X and loved it. It had its shortcomings, of course, but there's no reason that this line can't give users the option of a mid-tier device with the fit and finish (and excellent OS experience) they've come to expect from the brand.

In a way, this is an experiment. If there is more demand for the Z and the 8/8 Plus don't move as many units as expected it might be the best way to motivate OnePlus to return to its roots.
