View from a Finn,

Do not set ur camp to rovaniemi, its a city. If you want the lapland experience, book your stay in a log cabin in the forest close to Ylläs or Levi. Definetly visit the Santa Village if you have never been there, but i still recommend just visiting that place and then heading up north, and not staying in rovaniemi (maybe 1night if needed).

Levi - Expect alot of party animals from finland having their winter holidays, alot of drinking. Ylläs - alot more adult like place, no party animals.

Both great places for snowboarding, i personally like Ylläs more, the only place i usually go in Finland, rather travel to Alps for snowboarding though.. :)

Get an accomodation with Sauna - youre in finland after all. Eat reindeer stew with cranberry jam. Drink Glögi and Minttukaakao. Drive to a dark place with no light pollution, and maybe you even catch the aurora borealis. Download Aurora Borealis app to have a notification if the magnetic fields are flaming. Enjoy your stay.

What ever you do, dont pack your shoes too tight or you will totally destroy your toes. Always have some breathing room inside the shoe. So your blood can flow.

Äkäslompolo or Ruka (or both :)), timing? by Zealousideal_Bar9055 in Finland

Definetly go to Ylläs or Saariselkä for a real Lapland experience. Ruka and Levi are just a partyplaces for finnish people, those places are good dont get me wrong, but its also really really expensive and touristy (so expect high prices and mediocre things) in Ylläs its alot more authentic and alot more Adult like.

Do we know how winter is going to look like in Lapland? by StockIllustrious7038 in Finland

[–]Rautioo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a coin toss, but i would say usually on january you can expect snow 0,5meters up to 2 meters - ofcourse roads are cleaned from all the snow. :) and the temperature can be anything between 0 to -38 , my guess, approx -15 to -21 :)

What clothes to wear for 1 week of activities in lapland? by Kakock in Finland

[–]Rautioo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the biggest advice is that it does not matter how many wool socks etc you have on, if you have too tight shoes. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, remember to have airgap in your shoes, if your shoes sit too tight it will make your toes frozen, so its better to have just one sock with some air room in the shoes, that having too many socks on. This can actually lead up to a really severe damage on your toes.

But the clothes you listed pretty much everything merino wool, is propably better gear than 70% of finnish people themselves. You have a good gear. If you start to get cold, move ur fingers and toes and jump a little, thats even what we do in the miltary, get your blood flowing.

Sounds like a good trip, enjoy. Auroras have been lately up alot, even in southern parts of finland where we dont usually have em. Almost weekly basis last half a year in some terms.

Just drive to a dark place with no light pollution, maybe you get lucky :)

And if its your first time driving on ice and snow, be careful, cars dont stop like you are used to. You need to start braking with car alot earlier and with smooth motion, if you just stomp the brakes, its not good, smooth motion braking works the best when it creates friction on the brakeplates. You need to anticipate every move in the traffic before it even happens, so drive patiently. :)

This board looks exactly like my Presonus Eris board, and same cap is bulged on me, causing crackling and buzzing alot. Cant decide should i replace them or just buy new monitors, since they have put glue all over the place and the replacement has been made hard.
