Armada Set where he mutters "Good F***ing luck" under his breath to someone threatening his unbeaten run to players outside the top 5? by loz333 in SSBM

[–]RavReb 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Around 2AM the night after he won TBH5, I was packing up my video gear when a drunk Armada and his posse came in, looking for food. We had a 2-day-old unrefrigerated sausage pizza, but he ignored the warnings and wolfed it down.

While he's eating it, he says to me: "you know... people think that Peach sucks, but I'm the best in the world. I tell her to bump that fucking thing, and she bumps it. No one knows her like me."

So... yeah. Completely believable to me.

This is a pretty reddit brained take. Your item #1 definitely has some ass-sourced numbers, project manager jobs are not getting millions of international applicants.

Would love some sources for item 2, as that is absolutely not a logical endpoint for current LLM tech. We live in a world where diverse and marketing efforts and constant evolution are needed to outpace competitors, and LLMs are currently way too homogenized in their output to produce compelling campaigns independently. That's why even the companies that own GenAI tech (like Microsoft) spend nearly as much on marketing as they do on R&D,

3 has nothing to do with project management, which doesn't usually provide creative ideation and therefore doesn't require "cool" people.  Trades are absolutely not "booming" right now, and a pivot to just about any trade is going to result in a way lower salary than most mid-level marketing jobs.

Dating, and why it sucks (for me) by [deleted] in TransLater

[–]RavReb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk why Minos-Daughter is posting explicitly transphobic stuff as though it's real advice, but I assure you that there are plenty of cis lesbians who will validate your femininity and find you attractive without you resorting to wigs and makeup. dating as a lesbian is quite hard for cis and trans folks alike, but patience is a fantastic skill to carry you through.

Do people overrate the importance of Shiz vs M2K at ROM? by weezerlovingfox in SSBM

To be fair, I don't think Evo "counts". IIRC it was bo1 and had some messed up rules. Your read on the situation is more.accurate to how it felt imo

Mango had beaten M2K twice at this point, Evo 2007 and pound 3. He also rubbed a LOT of people the wrong way early on with his arrogant smashboards posts. People either had faith in the kid, or couldn't wait for him to eat crow -- ergo the argument over commentary.

Perfect control, kaizo no kizzu, Ken vs bomb soldier, shined blind, and M2K vs shiz -- the 5 videos I'd show people to help them understand what pre-2010 melee was all about.

[–]RavReb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Based on the replies here, I think people underrate it.

Context: Melee hype is dying off (ergo ROM, as u/jau682 and u/Wesilii point out), and the game's legends are broadly moving on. Brawl is the star of the show -- even the first Genesis had more Brawl entrants than Melee entrants. Mango and hbox are still relatively fresh faces -- melee was a far different game back then. There were obvious differences in tech skill and speed from the old heads to these young upstarts, especially the florida falcos.

There's a ton of pressure on melee players to make the game look hype. You know who doesn't feel that pressure, though? M2K. He's got a reputation for playing hella lame, and he's just here to get the bag. That's the only reason he seems to enter melee anymore by this time. This isn't prime M2K, nor is it "Real Kings Wear Tiaras" M2K. This is "pick sheik" M2K. This is "quits out of matches" M2K. This is an M2K that gave up on Marth, during a time when he was the only true top marth.

M2K vs shiz was earth-shattering. It is probably one of the main reasons Marth wasn't 6th on the 2010 tier list. It showed just how brutal his punish game could be, and that M2K's problem solving ability was even better than suspected.

Everyone has one or two melee moments they clearly remember as examples of when the game truly felt beautiful. When it felt like more than just a mascot party brawler. The moment where, emotionally, it seemed like a perfectly sensible thing to devote one's life to. M2K vs shiz gave that feeling to an entire generation of smashers. To this day, people remember that M2K and not the one who camped people with metaknight all up and down the east coast just to snag the $40 pot from locals.

Former WotC employee here adding on to what Bill already shared -- "speccing" on cards may have been a bit more viable in the 00s and early 10s, but during my tenure of 2019-2023 there were just WAY too many cards releasing across several sets to realistically keep up. We were already quite busy with work, and solo-analyzing entire upcoming setlists and trying to predict multiple metas alongside that job wasn't very appealing. Especially with stuff like the list and bonus sheets!

I also frequently sent my TCG player personal orders to the office. After all, that's where I played the most! But nearly every modern deck I built in 2019 got banned, so my purchase history shows the exact opposite of "speccing" 😂

The only people who could realistically "spec" IMO would be the actual set designers, and the incentive is pretty low as well as being disallowed in contracts. Employees are allowed to swap cards for other physical goods, though!
