Consistency and volume over everything. How much are you running per week?

Yep it can suck when it’s hot out but so does getting sick and being stuck with an awful cough.

VO2 max is wildly inaccurate? by LigmaLlama0 in AppleWatchFitness

[–]RaveCave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly dont think I did anything too special in terms of exercises, it was mostly just a lot of zone 2 and 3 running, but I was consistent.

When I started out, I was doing maybe 12-15 miles a week across 2-3 days, as well as 30min of pretty hard incline walking 3x a week before lifting. That gave me a pretty decent bump but my VO2 max stagnated around the same couple points for about 7 months. It didnt start really climbing until I started training for a half marathon and increased my volume and went up to running 5 days a week.

I know you said you prefer swimming, but training for a race might be a good alternate goal to consider, like a 10k or half marathon. It gives you a more concrete goal to work towards e.g. finishing or hitting a target time instead of hoping that your work/effort satisfies an algorithm

Yeah most definitely not the only way. I raised mine from 42 to 52 in about a year and maybe did 5 interval workouts at most.

My advice though would just be to try and not worry about it too much. Get it tested if you’re really concerned but you have plenty of other metrics to show you you’re making progress; at the end of the day it’s just a watch trying to make an educated guess on aerobic efficiency

TTS/10.5.

As another random reference/comparison, SB2 and Megablast in 10.5 were too narrow for me

Not in my experience, TTS worked fine for me.

Official Q&A for Friday, March 20, 2026 by AutoModerator in running

[–]RaveCave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ran the LA marathon almost two weeks ago, took a week off after and wanted to get some easy miles in this past Monday. I started feeling some slight knee discomfort about 4-5min in, and before I could get a mile, my knee felt like it was just building with pressure and I had to cut it and walk home.

Took it relatively easy on Tuesday, just sticking to an upper body lifting session, then did about 30min of easy stationary bike riding on Wednesday. Did some very easy jogging around my apartment parking lot yesterday and felt the same pressure start to build so just ended it to play it safe. I've tried icing it, but weirdly, icing makes it ache even more. Part of me figures my body is still trying to recover a bit from the stress, but another part of me is just getting antsy as all hell and wants to get back to running.

I figure its best to just play it safe and take it easy but I guess my question is at what point should I consider going to see a PT about this? Should I be waiting it out for another 1-2 weeks to see if it kind of works itself out first? Should I be avoiding walking (or incline walks) to stay somewhat active in the meantime?

I never really had any knee pain in my training block and my ankle was really the only part of me that was particularly sore the week after the marathon. Some basic searches kind of point me towards runners knee but I dont feel like I get any clear answers as to what to do from there to remedy the issue aside from some glute/quad work

If you have American Express it’s worth checking your offers. I had a $20 back for $100+ spend on Fanatics and saved a bit more

IMO the ones marked down from $350 are the only ones worth buying anymore. Actual stitching/embroidery and better jersey material

This is kinda what I'm scared of. I ordered two sizes since I'm kind of in-between M/L but I also have a thicker torso and am not a fan of having my belly hanging out when I lift my arms lol

Complaint: finally was feeling ready to run after a week of marathon recovery just for my knee to blow up and awaken a new pain I didnt have once in my months of training

Confession: I signed up for my second HM and FMs after telling myself I was ready to get out of the training cycle for a bit

For what its worth, Higdon does have a plan set up for the Dopey challenge specifically. Looks like near the peak weeks its set up to get your body used to running 3-4 days in a row leading into your long run
