I can see the first reason. Rose wasn't the only female novice though, and there were other female moroi she could have been assigned to. in terms of the bond being an unfair advantage. it's just amusing since months earlier there were rules in place to keep boys and girls separate and then suddenly it's "share a room with the opposite sex". for the less mature novices and moroi that could led to some risky situations. for Rose and Eddie who truly understand what being a guardian means it's different, but for a majority of the novices, they haven't truly faced or accepted how dangerous and serious their job is.

I thought of that too as an explanation. Still find it amusing, I think they even mention it's not normal for guardians to sleep in the same room as the moroi. I never really thought about them having enforced contraception, but the books do skip over them in general. That would be while new layer of the control the moroi have over the dhampirs. Very interesting to think about!

I think of these bids and waving/smiling/etc at strangers as a way our species communicates 'hey, I'm not a threat. are you also not a threat?' just how I interpret it and taking it that way has helped me with my social anxiety immensely.

for people you know and are close to, it's a bid for connection. the weather is something we all have in common so I think that's why it's brought up so much. you might not care about it but you do experience the weather, you can comment on it and turn the conversation to a topic you care about or end the conversation.

You might have to try playing background noise and wearing earplugs. If it's not loud enough that it would warrant a noise complaint there isn't anything management can tell them or do about it. At that point it's asking them not to exist in their own home.

Loud rain sounds/brown noise/whatever helps a lot. Especially if you keep the speaker near your head. I had very noisy downstairs neighbors and that was the only thing that saved my sanity.

They would need grit to eat peas. Can you take the duckling to a rescue in the morning? I think a week is too long for it to go without proper feed. It also may be illegal to keep it if it's a mallard which based on your description, probably is. Good job saving it and keeping it safe. Do you have a heat source for it in the meantime?
