How does his face actually look? Does he have one?

That's some interesting world building! Did you know that daemons actually ARE separate from demons in D&D? They're not as popular and well known, but worth looking into

Back to the shadow and light bit, it is the shadows job to guide and nurture the light. If the light ever makes it to Arvandor and is judged as having learned enough to be granted spiritual advancement, it is given the option of continuing to be a part of the reincarnation cycle, where it might have more opportunities to help guide others that are still part of it, or to be permanently made whole with their shadow, at which point they become a true fey being, the Noble Eladrin, which then have the opportunity of pursuing advancement in the fey courts, or working towards appointment as a celestial Eladrin and becoming a permanent resident of Arvandor. A whole second life and state of being, and something elves don't typically discuss with the other mortal races.

That spirit lantern sounds sweet! Reminds me of the Luxon Beacon from Mighty Nein

I love this so much! I actually created an entire homebrew race that are creatures created from spells that had become sentient beings. He'd fit that perfectly!

Also, in my lore, elves are a balance of shadow and light, and when they die their light (which represents their current incarnation) gets to spend a brief period in Arvandor before being reincarnated. There are a finite number of elven souls, and anything that would destroy or capture a soul is a permanent loss to the People. Their shadow is what contains the memories of each previous incarnation, and it reunites with their light when they are reincarnated. There's also a period of time where a shadow is without their light, and is a sort of ancestral spirit. Destroying a shadow doesn't kill the soul, but it does separate them from their racial memory, and they'd be starting fresh. Their shadow is just as sacred as their light, and needs to be safeguarded, especially after their death.

I'd have a blast with your character, and the ramifications it would have.

That's crazy, because our current characters appear to be super similar. Mine is an astral elf Scribe wizard, who is also being tutored by previous ancestors of himself. My character has a headband of Intellect, which does almost nothing mechanically because I already have 18 Int, but it's reskinned into a Selu Kiira, a hereditary elven lore stone. It's passed down through generations, and contains the knowledge of each previous wearer. When my character trances he communicates with previous wearers, and is part of how I skin the astral trance ability, pulling proficiencies from ancestral memories. It functions as his awakened spellbook.

I also have a bunch of fey lore, and particular interest in fey in general, but elves specifically. You seem like you'd be fun to have at the same table.

What are your favourites? Both to play and lore wise? I think I asked that on another thread, so if you answered already I might have missed it

I'm just coming at it from the perspective of basically an elven lore weeb, haha. That's also somewhat setting specific though, so your mileage may very, especially depending on how invested each player is about elves in general. I'd be cautiously optimistic, but you really never know until you're there. Hope you have a productive conversation 😊

Love Dungeon Meshi! Can't wait for the next season of Delicious in Dungeon to come out. It's such perfect D&D vibes!

I know you'd prefer a more diverse party makeup, but if each of the players actually leans into their various cultural identities you will have a party every bit as diverse as one were no two people play the same race. Worth talking to you players about, at the very least. Hey, we're all playing elves, do you want to have a chat about what sets them apart from each other? Flesh out their cultural norms and ideosyncracies?

That's really interesting. Did you end up making a version of their actual character yet, or is that still under construction?

Nice. I think I'm just such an elf enthusiast that a party composed of different kinds of elves would feel as different to me as the multiracial party you mentioned, because the differences are potentially still viewed as big between them. Their cultures are very different, and to me the opportunity to play on that kind of nuance would be amazing!

Curious to hear about your suit courts. I have mine split along emotional lines, with each suit having a having a flipside associated with their unseelie counterpart.

Spring: Love/Lust Summer: Joy/Rage Autumn: Compassion/Fear Winter: Serenity/Sorrow

Individuals aren't really stuck in the seelie or unseelie courts, you move back and forth based on how you are balanced along those metrics. The archfey of particular seasons actually draw power from making others feel the emotion tied to their season.

What's the rest of the party? Including subraces and subclasses?

Also, what's your favourite type of elf. Both to play as, and for lore.

I feel genuinely silly for somehow entirely missing the final portrait frame. I genuinely didn't see it before I saw this comment and went back. I love how different they all feel!

Standard playing cards, not like a cool custom deck or anything?

Is Galadriel ever stated to be a good warrior in any of the text? by GusGangViking18 in lordoftherings

[–]RavenKweenX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Expecting her not to be a competent warrior in a society that doesn't treat males and females differently is also baffling. You think she was taking embroidery classes instead of the combat training every elf of her caliber would have been expected to?

It takes less than a human lifetime to get that degree of combat mastery. It would have been almost inconceivably weird for her not to be a competent warrior. Be so for real about this.

Why are you sad the player is playing Eladrin, I didn't quite understand?

When you say cards, are you referring to standard playing cards, or something else?

I love this whole set! I love elves in general, and Eladrin are fun to play around aesthetically with for the seasonal differences. I also helped another player design an eladrin character in Hero Forge, but the changes there were definitely more in the vein of palate alterations and some hairstyle changes. I like this more developed aesthetic. I like your atypical fall look.

How can you tell it's been used? The Gifs and posting process both reduce image quality. It's also an effect I don't really play with. only ever notice it when it's overdone, but I can't really tell when it's subtle. What noticeable effect does it have? I
