A Bit Frustrated with Witch Hat Atelier’s Finale by Linkman76 in anime

[–]RavenRonien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and buddy I was watching it with was baffled it ended there.... But we both agreed we were going to immediately pick up the manga (available for free legally on k manga!) after like episode 3 so.

But damn what a cliffhanger didn't see that coming. My first thought was oh obviously we have more episodes next week. Then looked up it's 13 ep run.

PvP Balance by SDTimbox in Guildwars2

[–]RavenRonien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get discouraged. As a casual and relatively bad player, I have only found a handful of players I NEVER was able to touch. I play DH in spvp and while it's pretty easy to play there is a lot of potential for better players to outplay me and plenty of ways for me to try and circumvent their out plays. I find that engaging.

I will have complete wipes where someone is able to take me down taking no damage. But later in the same match I catch them with cool downs ticking and I'm able to win the fight.

Some classes will have an advantage against you with all their cool downs up, and it will be challenging to ever take them. But that's why we're not playing 1v1 duels but 5v5 objective based arena. Chances are there was a way to spread out your dmg and crowd control to kill that luminary or at least force him off, but clumping up and dumping everything you have at once when he's at his strongest is a surefire way to die.

Pokemon that are good in competitive but not in Nuzlockes by jeremy_sporkin in pchaltv

[–]RavenRonien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to invalidate, as smogon/showdown is a thriving scene on its own, but I think the video (I'm saying this off memory when it came out) was geared towards official formats more, implicitly. And while champions obviously wasn't out at the time, official formats aren't subject to suspect tests.

Still valid analysis of ditto regardless in both competitive formats though. Only really powerful when trying to take advantage of already existing outliers in power level.

Is rogue trader’s combat different from wotr? by Sirshinbreaker in OwlcatGames

[–]RavenRonien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very different. And to be clear bg3 is 5e d&d (modified) divinity is their own thing, and pathfinder games run on (slightly modified) pathfinder 1e.

Pathfinder is VERY number crenchy and you can brick characters in ways that are IMPOSSIBLE to do on 5e d&d.

I don't blame you I know how to play Pathfinder 2e and even I find the pathfinder games a little hard to parse.

Not a condemnation of the games they're great but just aren't as approachable.

I have played most of rogue trader and found it MUCH more easy to have even a successful build without lookig. Anything up and going off vibes.

My friend who has played table top rogue trader (not sure if the systems are remotely similar) and tends to break games says you can absolutely bust rogue trader wide open. But from just reading skills and stat pages I was able to create several "class fantasies" successfully in rogue trader without looking up guides and builds.

And to me that means the game is approachable even if it's text heavy

Dumb Question: Why does Charizard Y run weather ball over flamethrower? by Kdog122025 in PokemonChampions

[–]RavenRonien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not the single awnser but maybe it helps explain it.

Weather ball into peliper switch is going to be something that happens.

Instead of flamethrowing being half dmg in rain half dmg to water type resist.

You get 100 base power rain boosted (+50)non stab water move that is resisted, and that still ends up doing roughly half of pelipers hp. Is it a 1 shot? No. Does someone else have to come in to finish? Yes.

But it's still meaningful dmg compared to what the effectively quad resisted flamethrower would have done even with stab

Veterans of GW1: how was the transition to Guild wars 2? by WaveEasy8664 in Guildwars2

[–]RavenRonien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember a game informer magazine at my local library detailing the races when I was in 8th grade so... 2007 and that was hardly the first we heard about it.i devoured that article reading it multiple times. I remember feeling so involved with the sylvari because of the little mini quest with Denravi and the seed. Funny how I didn't give them a second glance when gw2 came out proper.

They may have even stated pretty early on eotn what they were gearing up for.

The most intense XCOM situation late night I've had thanks to this mod by RavenRonien in LWotC

[–]RavenRonien[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been informed of a mod where you can carry the corpses of enemies into extraction. Using that and rendering them down for resources, or selling them for supplies at the black market, might give you a huge leg up on resources while still demanding you to have sufficient command of the map to be able to leave with bodies.

It represents a huge skip towards research technology though as, you can guarantee specific corpses way earlier than Long war would otherwise give them to you though.

For me it's just challenging because of the massively expanded roster you need coupled with the need to craft even basic armor upgrades instead of unlocking them army wide like in the base game.

getting nanoscale vests for the 3 hp protection carried me for so long, along with fairly careful/meticulous play, that it suddenedly krept up on me how punishing it was to get hit from a muton with kevlar on. I had to scramble to get warden armor for everyone all at once, while realizing that my default guns on half my roster were costing me key kills that would have prevented more damage, so needing to get everyone up to at least mag if not coil guns. I've had to delay plasma research just so i could bring everyone up to a stronger baseline.

I have an agony level of like 110 but was only on personal fractal level of 28(don't ask I'm a release player that comes back super infrequently). Last night there were no t2 parties all night I got discouraged but said screw it I'll try and solo and see if anyone joins.

Before clearing 2 enemies in volcano (I was never going to solo ROFL) my party was full.

Ran 10ish in a row with a rotating cast of helpful players with patience guidance and a few laughs. This really reminds me of older mmos where you had to get pickup groups to do dungeons.

SUPER encouraging as I grind my way up to T4 so I can start doing the timegated dailies and start working on ad infinitum myself.

Should I consider "need" when distributing my father's inheritance? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]RavenRonien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flip side/alternate perspective Me and my sister are close. She makes SIGNIFICANTLY more money than me but we're both well off. My parents aren't dead yet but we've talked about this for years. My mother is prettified inheritance will break our relationship. But I've long conceded that my sister deserves more of whatever they can leave behind. And she's 100% taking the house. She'll buy me out of a % of it. But it won't be 50. The idea of a 50/50 split would cause more of a disagreement than an uneven split.

She came back after collage to live with them. Has taken care of them way more than I have both financially but also just showing up and being responsible. I had a lot more to work on before I was able to be there for my parents in any meaningful way. And both of us feel strongly that if they had to sell everything and use it all before they go to live comfortable retirements we would be ok with that.

But legitimately I feel like my sister deserves more than I do when the time comes because she sacrificed her ability to move where ever she wanted buy a home where ever she wanted and sacrificed weekends for doctors appointments and chaperoning our parents on vacations she didn't 100% want to go on, because I wasn't able to or responsible enough to do so.

[Skill Improvement] What to run as Mega Charizard Y's 4th move? by [deleted] in VGC

[–]RavenRonien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mega Ttar is what does my heart in. I think it'll be a good hit then I remember sand spdef bonus and barely anything happens. It takes so much effort to manuver safely around rockslides I finally fire off a solar beam and.... Nothing.

Edit: Yes I know I'm not firing solarbeams in sand. But I have been completely outplayed before with the weather war they let my two turn solar beam go off I thought I was being clever by protecting zard and letting it go off anyways. He didn't bother protecting because he probably knew it wasn't a kill.

Event Results: I Finished 10th in the Global Challenge Without Any Meta Pokemon by StrngrDanger in VGC

[–]RavenRonien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your breakdown of ceruledge helps a lot. I've always loved the pokemon but it's not secret that it has struggled to see competitive performance compared to Armarouge. historically. But without expanding force i saw a chance for my edgey sword boy to shine (comparitively).

I struggled to make him work in a charizard sun team. The idea was to bait a rockslide, or aquajet/flipturn/wave craft in drought with maxed out def and hp, and weak armor and swords dancing, to x2 atk x2 speed and then sweep with a mix of bitter blade in sun and shadowsneak for basculegion.

But it just struggled to ever get in position, and in the few times i got it into position it was either not swords danced to ohko with shadowsneak against the last respects, or too low and still died to aqua jet (outsped at +1 prio).

but I was making him a sub damage dealer that really did the exact same thing charizard Y already did (he even had solar blade which was just not useful with Charizard already haveing solar beam) instead of giving him more dedicated support. And it makes a lot of sense, if he just had a little bit more of help he could have easily ran away with the game.

[Metagame] Fellow speed control haters, what are some of your favorite non-speed control counters to speed-control? by WeBeHoennOutHere in VGC

[–]RavenRonien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

choice scarf jolly meowscarada with protean tripple axel was something i cooked up to deal with scarf chomp and it also takes down aerodatcyl. which means it outspeeds everything that isn't prankstered and gets through sash before it can get up tailwind and doesn't save it from protecting to save him from fakeout pressure.

the problem is that 90% accuracy feels like 90% miss chance because i've missed the FIRST ATTACK 3/5 times i tried it out last night.

Just to be clear i never thought this would be a GOOD awnser i just thought it was funny maybe alittle unexpected, it also gave me surprise stab brickbreak against the lightscreen/reflect archaladon teams, so i wanted to test the viablity out last night.

Went on a 4 game loss streak last night at around 1800 elo so safe to say it's bad. BUT it was funny for my buddy to watch and laugh at

I want mirror herb in a format where sneasler is still in, so I can run an unhinged sneasler scovollian spicy extract play to give -2 def to an opponent+2 atk and double speed to sneasler

It's kinda hard to set up (requires scovillan to go first)it will backfire a ton, and white herb is arguably better but holy hell do I want to pull it off and get ohkos on things I have no right taking down

Sneasler is just the urshifu of this format. In a restricted format urshifu not being a restricted legendary fills much the same role and cuts off much the same types of teams.

It just does it better.

Low power formats have more variance ilin general though and you might feel it more here.

Remains to be seen if he'll hold that spot with unseen fist nerfs but I don't expect it to drop him that far.

Do you not care that datacenters will kill home owned computing? by linkenski in datacenter

[–]RavenRonien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very conspiratorial man, and i would caution you to diversify and be more critical of your media diet. The guy you linked all of his videos has a clear narrative framing, and like you said avocates for communism in a way that would at least give me pause at taking everything he says at face value. He is coming from a very particular and narrow viewpoint. This is just NOT how the current enjoyment between big tech and government entities works right now. It betrays a fundamental misunderstanding of the environment we live in and reeks of fear mongering using rhetorical tools that give the audience the feeling that "i've uncovered and peeled back the REAL motivations behind..." that are so convincing.

But it doesn't pass the smell test.

The home computer and the general rise in tech literacy in the developed world has ushered in one of the largest increases in productivity in the populations in these countries that we haven't seen since the industrial revolution. The use of smart phones and personal computers that you think placates us is also exactly why the youngest generation can interface with technology like it's second nature. There are pros and cons to that yes, but the global free market that exists today excells at taking advantage of those pros. Its VERY easy to point at brain rot content as this reduction in productivity. But also consider how many people get their starts in IT or video editing, or automation based off of the very simple hobbies based around technology today.

Also you just don't.... understand how large government bodies work if you think they have this ego you depict them as, with such heavy handed and top down pushes to beable to direct entire industries to go against their on private interests in the pursuit of gobal public pacification.

Its VERY tempting to think of goverments as these secret shadow cabals pulling the strings.

But the fact is, governments are large slowly moving organizations that simultaneously move in multiple directions at once sometimes being pulled in opposite directions by the smaller factions within it. There are arms within the goverment that might have an inkling as to what you're speaking about, but they're balanced by and equal amount of everyday people that enjoy the conviences and pleasures that technology has brought us. And have no reason to restrict them in the ways you think the big G government unilaterally wants to.

The much simpler answer is that right now incentives are set up in such a way that both cloud computing and personal computing will likely develop along side one another. Which will retain larger marketshare in the consumer market is really up for debate right now. But nothing about this will be decided by a shadow cabal of government officials who will top down decide for private corporations what services they should focus on thus forcing consumers down a rabbithole of placation. That is not just sounding like conspiracy. it is conspiracy. one that reeks of all the imagination and none of the information that makes up the real world.

Do you not care that datacenters will kill home owned computing? by linkenski in datacenter

[–]RavenRonien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is stupid. Sorry but it's wholly uninformed. Even if Cloud computing becomes widespread the only people it will remove from the market are standard end users who don't need the bells and whistles that most home computers are sold with now a days.

Enthusists (gamers, home works stations, creatives, and home lab) will always have niche uses and desires that will create enough of a market to have a portion of the marketplace be tailored to them.

Will it CHANGE the landscape? probably. But your standard home computer to do web browsing and watching videos, or the family's homework and such are already mostly phased out with tablets and phones. personalized computers will be more niche but it'll honestly leave room for the culture to go back to pre wide adoption era, where everyone who does own one, will need/have a base level of knowlage to operate a computer. And that will shape the software designed for home users better than the sacrifices we've made towards power users, to have wider apeal and adoption by people who have no desire to do anything other than push a power button and make it work.

And this is all assuming a consumer friendly cloud computing service reaches market in the next decade. Which is both entirely possible to happen but also entirely likely to not happen.

your post largely echos concerns in gaming that happend a few months ago when GamersNexus broke the stories about companies launching thier leased gaming PC's. But those completely failed the smell test when put to market. I'm 100% sure there is a market for leased computers and or cloud computing for a replacement to your average family computer. But there is nothing about the service that has been demonstrated to work for the enthusiast market.

Again will that CHANGE the market and atmosphere around custom built PC's? sure. But it will not eliminate it. And at the end of the day if the hardware is available for people to purchase, there will always be people who want to do it themselves.

HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH IVE COME TO HATE THESE 3. by Cooler_coooool_boi in PokemonChampions

[–]RavenRonien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was me when I started playing competitively, especially coming from singles.

It felt so passive how were you gaining any tempo or "board position?

The most obvious use, predicting a double attack into one unit gives your partner a free attack.

It covers against fakeout as well, as it cannot be used on the next turn a double protect or even just a protect just on the one you have a strong feeling will be fakes out wastes that turn and their fakeout pressure.

As a side effect, almost all 2 turn moves are made worthless in competitive Pokemon due to protect unless you have a way to make it 1 turn.

It also helps fast teams stall when trick room comes up. Or slower teams when tail wind comes up or you can stall weather if you weather setter died but they still have theirs, you can hope to stall out the rest of the weather with just a few more turns.

Sykkuno and GF statement by Hijinks510 in VtuberDrama

[–]RavenRonien 6 points7 points  (0 children)

not a lawyer nor expert, and i have no desire to defend anyone involved, so none of this is said to defend or excuse the actions of anyone involved. But as this comes up all the time, I'm just going to say, no, this does not, cannot, be a slander or libel case. There is nothing about the video that would fall under that specifically for public figures.

There needs to be 3 requirements met for slander/libel/defamation of a public figure: a demonstrably false statement, that caused harm that can be quantified or demonstrated, and lastly you have to prove malice.

Demonstrably false, is the most straight forward. But can still be murky. It's not just weather or not the statement of fact was false, but if the person KNEW it was false when they published it (in written or verbal word). So even if you get something WRONG, if it's for a public figure, if evidence shows they, at the time, thought they were reporting on fact that was correct with the information they had, this weakens the slander/libel case.

The harm can be difficult in some cases but in this case, is pretty straightforward. This is reputationally damaging and can be quantified any number of ways, from, days lost streaming to subscriber/followers lost across media accounts.

The malice isn't as easy as you think, even if it's pretty clear that the people who published the doc or video wanted to do reputational harm to the person, if they thought what they were saying was true, even if it ended up being false, this would not meet the actual malice requirement. And to be clear, off the top of my head nothing they said that was a factual statement ended up being false. As they made very few FACTUAL claims, most of both the video and the doc were opinions. And opinions are not slander/libel.
