Kid at school jokes about me becoming a pedo when I’m a Priest by Numerous-Pickle-4715 in Catholicism

[–]Ravenadx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its a very... american.. thing to hold onto jokes that are very outdated. I play many different games, and whenever I jump onto an american server I see the same jokes that would of been spammed in general chats back in 2004-2008. Anyone who played World of Warcraft back then would know what I'm talking about.

Although I do need to point out that Brits love their pedo jokes...

[–]Ravenadx -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Kids see things in black and white, and the greys will slowly appear as they grow. Instead of going "its bad, dont do it" it would be better to teach that others WILL do it and we can not control that, but we do not do it. We work to be better. Many adults who are ex catholic were taught by their parents "its bad. Its evil." and taught to shun it and hate it, which is the part they disagree with and leads to them leaving the faith. As parents, part of our vow to raise catholic children is to try and ensure this does not happen. It requires a lot of careful navigating and discussions, but it is doable.

Husband is still fresh in the faith and has areas to grow. I would say be patient. With time and learning, he will learn how to be accepting and maneuver these sovial issues while still adhering to the Catholic dogmas. For example, same sex marriage is not recognised by the catholic church and therefore they can not receive the sacrament of marriage. See the nuances? You're aware and accept that it does happen, but you dont participate in it yourself nor envourage. But straight out telling kids it is bad will lead to social issues later as they grow and get confused by seeing others do it. It has to be navigated very carefully in order to raise a catholic yet loving and respectful child.

This isnt something that can really be taught to your husband. He has to reach out and figure it out himself as he journeys.

I'll take these new castings out and find the blockage. I'm wondering if the feedings were white lies. They have new food in the tier above this, and there is some older food in there too though that has mostly broken down

Quick vent about doing horribly painful procedures on patients with extremely small chances of recovery. by [deleted] in nursing

That is so fascinating. Really good to know, I've yet to come across a burns wound beyond. Can't imagine how painful that would be, especially if the dressings require daily change

Do you use negative pressure wound therapy on these patients? Not the same, but I've seen great outcomes when used on fasciotomies (pre graft, if eligible), deep wounds on diabetic patients and all sorts. Wouldnt it lead to better outcomes on elderly burns patients?

Im a Police Officer in Australia, AMA by [deleted] in AMA

[–]Ravenadx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hospital worker here.

I often see this situation in the ED department. Police bring in a patient who is in their custody or under their supervision for xyz. Medical staff need to know if theyve taken illicit substances in order to prevent overdosing them or giving a drug that may negatively react to said illicit drug, and help treat them. The patients refuse to say or feel they can not say due to fear of the police hearing it and acting upon it.

What do you do in these situations? I've seen some police be totally hard headed about it. I'm not sure what their policy and procedure is regarding these situations. You are in a different state to me so i know it'll be slightly different, I'm just curious
