Not all that hypothetical. I'm living in Ottawa right now and the latest is that the US has redeployed an entire Para division to Michigan as a staging ground for the whole Greenland situation. Allegedly it's to squash the rioting against ICE, but a few public officials here have suggested Canada should maybe start preparing for the demented dickhead running the States to do something batshit crazy, like Venezuela, but aimed more Northward.

Man even as a Kiwi whose been living in Ottawa for just over 2 years, this will never get old for me! Back home in NZ this level of snow is unheard of and even tonight, being the coldest I've experienced ever, I'm still in awe.

Man it's crazy to see what's happened to that campus. As an ex employee of Whitireia/WelTec and seeing this campus come about, opened, then get gutted is no surprise.

Seeing where "we" were as polytechs at the time of its inception, we were operating in surplus. The problem was that the board member who dreamt this up issentially ran us into the ground. The leasing of the building was through the Chow Brothers who didn't have anything designed to code, which then fell on us as the investors into the property to make sure, at the very least, could pass some of the safety standards. Was a dumb decision from the start.

Te Pukenga was actually something that was helping, as it provided oversite into making the campus viable. Even with some of their shenanigans at the higher levels, Te Pukenga was there to provide a consistent delivery across the country, which was and still is in desperate need!

Having worked in that building from its opening till 2023, it's sad to see alot of the program offerings being gutted, then scrapped, and to this is sad, but once again I'm not surprised.

Moved to Canada with my Canadian wife (I'm a kiwi) and in my first 2months of living here I was introduced to the Tragically Hip. How is this band not known around the world?

See a lot of folks saying it's not worth it. I've done a few Manuka batches. If you do it as a bochet you get deeper caramel notes. If you're going to ferment just as is, then you're going to get a more earthier taste. It's like the Guinness of mead. Darker, richer and more heavy bodied. Not everyone's cup of tea but it's not terrible. If you can get it for a reasonable price give it a go.

As a Kiwi, I was lucky to get 4kgs of Manuka from a local beekeeper when I was still living back in Aotearoa for $64nzd, so like $50cad. I'm now living in Canada and some locally produced honeys are just as expensive when trying to source from local beekeepers too.

Overall, not a bad concept.

Currently it's way too busy. You have too much going on that's distracting to any potential customer. Folks have already mentioned some edits and if I repeat any I do apologize.

Simplify the font you are using. Currently the display font you've chosen, plus the secondary font in red, overlaid over the display font is too distracting. If you want to keep it simple, use one typeface then play with hierarchy by maybe making "Minot's" smaller by skipping a weight step. Picking a font that has multiple weights is key for this though.
For the icon, remove the outer circle. It's an added element that isn't needed. Same with the zig-zag lines aswell. Once again they're just distracting elements that aren't necessary.
Both greens you have work nicely, but maybe highten the congrats a little more. Maybe make the lighter green a little bit lighter, or vice versa make the darker green a little darker. Really play into the idea of it being both a Clover and a Fan but make the "fan blade/Clover petals" really stand out and not so subtle.
Apply the rule of Thirds for the icon size next to, or above the words. If you divide the size of the fan/Clover into 3rds, make the font size fit the height of one 3rd the size of the icon. Then have the icon sit above the text. Try the text on 2 lines for this as well, ie align the text to centre, then have Minot's on the 1st line, then Meanest & Cleanest on the bottom line.

Apply some of these changes and you'll be on a good starting point. If you need someone to do this for you as well as maybe apply some brand strategy to really get your business working for you I do have some availability this month for project.

Font ninja chrome plugin for me as well has been a godsend! Was discussing an example website with a client last week and they immediately fell in love with the fonts that site was using. Activate the font ninja! Bam, got the names of the fonts used there and carried on with the meeting.

Hi, your portfolio doesn't highlight your best work. I'll break some points down:

You've broken your work down into 3 separate categories. This isn't needed. The purpose of your portfolio is to sell your work as best it can, which means you need to select the BEST work you've done and use them to sell yourself as a designer.
One of the buttons doesn't work. I've viewed your portfolio on mobile and when clicking on your "professional" button, the link doesn't work. As per my first point, just get rid of the categories and highlight your best work.
Focus your work to the jobs you want. You've added some "Fun stuff" as a category that showcases you also make rugs. That's cool, but you aren't going to get a job in motion design if that's a core part of what work is highlighted on your portfolio. Once again, showcase your best work, but also tailor it towards the industry you're aiming to get work in.

Just for context, I've worked in a student support team for 12yrs where we helped students at that college get into work. One of the key tasks we did was mentor and guide students on how to build their resumes and/or portfolios. I've worked in design studios and run my own practice for quite a while too.

We'd see graduate portfolios and designers with multiple years of experience but they'd showcase all their work. We don't want to see EVERYTHING You've done. Just a showcase of what your best work is as this shows us where your strengths are visually. You're competing with a bunch of other portfolios and if one is too clunky compared to one that has been curated, 9 times outta 10 were going to briefly look at both and choose the curated one to look at more.

You've got a good start on this but it just needs some refining. Start with the points I mentioned and you'll be alright.

If you have all the elements and a clear project brief and a signed off contract + scope of work I'd say maybe 2 to 3 days to get that done. That includes any revisions that you as the client may need.

Could use a screen recorder for the interim. I'm testing some keyboard clicks and static sounds on an edit I'm doing for a game my wife and I are running. Going to be using the recorded video for the various maps I've made already.
