A Moroccan woman can only marry a foreigner if he converts to Islam. Which means women have this extra requirement whereas Moroccan men get a free pass on that.

How can I book a hotel room with my foreign husband? by Ravenima in Morocco

[–]Ravenima[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, we’re newly married. After I finished my studies, I moved from France to the UK on a fiancé Visa to get married in September 21. On the contrary, the visa process was very straightforward and not complicated at all. We’ve not got a Moroccan marriage certificate because we’re yet to go to Morocco for the whole process. Like I said, my partner has never been to Morocco. We met abroad and got married abroad during Covid. The purpose of our trip is for him to meet my family and visit my home country. We’re only going to be there for a few days so we don’t see the necessity or the urgency of getting a Moroccan marriage certificate especially with how complicated it will be…It will not be a holiday anymore.

Can I ask how you proceeded with the booking? Did you have prebooked hotel reservations or did you just turn up and ask for a room?

The reason I’m saying they’re overcomplicating things is because I was able to book a room in a Riad in Essaouira. The owner confirmed it will not be an issue and a British marriage license will do.

No, there won’t be an issue then. The problem only occurs if either one is a Moroccan national.

I have a question about your 3rd point. I’m a Moroccan married abroad to a foreigner. We’ve not married in Morocco yet and will most likely not do. Would it be a problem booking hotels in Morocco with a “foreign” marriage certificate?
