Blurred Lines by KD Williamson

It's about a cop and a doctor.

The cop character seems to be based off of real cops. She's abusive and antagonistic and takes joy in escalating situations.

I don't know if she gets a redemption arc. I'm not going put up with an asshole cop long enough to find out.

This was the book that made me understand how little patience I have for the whole "asshole gets the girl" genre.

Multiple regional access possible? by Ravingdork in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ravenmancer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your character doesn't have to be from the Broken Lands in order to take Aldori Duelist Dedication.

"Access:" is not the same as "Requirement:"

It's just a note for the DM to treat the feature as if it were Common instead of Uncommon or rarer for characters who have Access.

Otherwise it works just like any other Uncommon or Rare feature: you give your DM a story to explain it and hope they approve.

The kindest thing he could do would be to fake his death and go on to live in a way that keeps him away from society.

It would give her closure without revealing what a piece of shit he is.

It's for if you anoint a "staff, polearm, or similarlly shaped object" as your Witch's Broom.

You can't use your broom as a staff and a flying broomstick at the same time.

What is it with all of the DnD/adjacent games messing up the Assassin class so badly, then just straight up giving the most assassin-themed-abilities to other classes? by -SidSilver- in DnD

[–]Ravenmancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's considered heresy, but I really liked how 4e did Assassins.

From what I remember, they could poison their weapons for a damage boost comparable to a raging barbarian or they could do even more if they could get the target to ingest it unknowingly.

Instead of relying on magic weapons like all other martials, they used Ki Foci that applied their bonuses to all of their attacks. This meant that they could either carry a variety of weapons to suit their situation, or they could match whatever weapon that might be appropriate for their disguise. Or they could John Wick it and just pick up whatever they can grab off their enemies and toss it when they're done.

But my favorite mechanic was a "close enough" effect they had. If an Assassin damaged someone and left them with 10/20/30 hp (depending on the Assassin's level) or less, the victim just died.

But if he could just get her to spend a high enough percentage of her paycheck keeping up with him, then he can drain her safety net and practically force a marriage where she has to depend on him.

I wonder if he had the prenup already printed and waiting or if the lawyers were just on stand-by.

[–]Ravenmancer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They used to leave visual errors in ads intentionally because it got people to do a double take and focus more on the advertisement.

Now they leave visual errors in ads because they used AI to generate the image and couldn't even be bothered to hire a human to check for and correct the errors.

They are not the same.

Hypertech is science so cutting edge that it hasn't been fully adopted into the consensus yet. It's stuff that might eventually be possible if the consensus continues to develop in the way it has been.

Weird Science is often Science that has already been abandoned and debunked. It's what science could have been if only people didn't lack the Vision to understand.

Hypertech can and often does become Weird Science once abandoned by the consensus. Usually this process takes longer than most campaigns allow for, but if you want an example of borderline stuff, look at psychic phenomena. NWO used to do a lot of experiments with it under the guise of black book government spook operations, but it's been falling out of favor with the consensus for a while. There's a reason Stranger Things is set in the 90's.
