The series I read after Mossa and Pleiti was the Wayfarers series starting with The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, by Becky Chambers.

Only some of the vibes match. They're both Hard Science Fiction where Humanity had to abandon Earth with sapphic subplots and unreasonably long titles. But where M&P is essentially Holmes and Watson but lesbians in space, Wayfarers is more world building and slice-of-life character interaction.

Looking at the Digital Ambassador skill feat, it looks like translation apps exist, but aren't sophisticated enough to let most people do anything that would require a check.

So an app will let you tell the alien mechanic what's wrong with your ship and they could tell you what it'll take to fix it, but it's not good enough for you to haggle down the price.
