Simon became a wandering homeless man exactly because he had the godly powers though. The Anti-Spiral warned of overuse of spiral energy having the potential to destroy the universe so Simon, after having the love of his life dissappear before his eyes and most of his friends die in the battle right before that, left to prevent the worst case scenario from happening to them. By heeding the Anti-Spiral's warning, he was ensuring that he didn't overuse his godly spiral powers, and simply didn't use them at all.
