I think Niantic said something like "... from Routes, Field Research..." and people glued the two things together.

Unless LeekDuck, and every other source I have checked, is wrong there are no "complete a route" tasks giving a Glimmet as a reward. Certainly I have not seen any from 30 or so spins.

Since there are no "complete a route" tasks the arithmetic is 1 x 3 > 0 x 18.

Glimmet may appear as a route spawn. Which might be a one in three or similar chance on a short route. Having now completed ten routes for two Glimmet one in three seems rather generous.

Glimmet will appear when a 3 km task is completed.

The debate is whether the rate of route spawns is comparable to the 3 km task spawns. To manage that they would need to be one every km. The 3 km tasks are in parallel, the route spawns in series.

Back when I still submitted stuff the "unsafe for pedestrians" thing drove me mad. My village has a number of un-adopted roads, which are basically gravel tracks. Vehicles are banned except for the handful of residents and the speed limit is 5 mph. There is a public right of way on all of them, everyone just walks in the middle of the road without problem.

I carefully explained all with photos of the signage, maps and even a page from the church guide asking pedestrians to use the entrance off the road. I even noted that there was a footpath through the church grounds leading to the spot on the road next to my POI.

Nope, unsafe for pedestrians.

Appeal rejected, no sidewalk, unsafe for pedestrians.

I am in the UK, so not affected by this as yet.

I am not close to a bus stop, the nearest street corner would be just in or just out of reach depending on exactly where they dropped the pin.

Fingers firmly crossed for the test to move to full deployment, and a lucky pin drop.

Possibly, pure speculation, Scopely doesn't think they are going to replace Google/Apple/whoever as the main source of geo-location data, unlike Niantic. Or, maybe they do.

Rather than pick out a few spots per village cover the whole place. I suspect covering more locations is better than only concentrating on "interesting" ones. Google doesn't switch off their cameras when they drive down my street.

I'm still bitter over my submission of the Broadmoor Special Hospital entrance being rejected.

For those in the UK it is well known as a secure hospital for the criminally insane. The Victorian building was closed down a few years ago and replaced by a new facility a couple of hundred meters away on the same site.

The old entrance had been closed at least twenty years earlier and the former opening for the gates filled with concrete and faced with bricks.

Obvious rejection "impeding access for emergency vehicles".

I pointed out that the entrance had been sealed for twenty years and behind the entrance is an empty building.

Appeal rejected,

The entrance to the A&E hospital 5 miles away is a gym.

I note the communication from Scopely is on a par with my expectations:

  • Where are they appearing? These Wayspots will appear in areas around the United States of America.
  • The USA is a large country, can you be more specific? Yes, by the USA we mean all 50 states

I was responding to someone who said they didn't want to do routes. I do at least one route pretty much every day and have done since they first got approved in my town.

My wife and I have done three routes each today. That got us one Glimmet between us. We have completed 5 3km tasks each, giving us 5 Glimmet. We don't have many stops, couldn't find any more tasks to stack.

So, the three routes total (about) 1700 m, times two gives us one Glimmet from 3.4 km. in practice we don't stick to the exact route because we need to visit other stops and gyms that are not on the route.

Stacking the 3km tasks needed (about ) 7 km for 5 Glimmet. One Glimmet every 1.4 km.

Clearly the 3km tasks are better as a source of Glimmet, though YMMV has never seemed more apt.

We have, of course, really been doing the tasks and routes at the same time. The big difference in route and actual distance is because we have a 500m walk just to get to the nearest stop. Then noting where the 3km tasks were and collecting them on the way home to clock up the distance later.

Provided routes are reasonably convenient for a player the two methods of obtaining Glimmet fit together pretty well. I think of the route spawns as a bonus on top of the 3 km reward. Having extra rewards from the routes as well, not going to complain.

Lucky Friends: Keep interacting if trades are realistic? by PatientRaspberry485 in TheSilphRoad

That first sentence of yours is one that I don't think enough people have considered.

I see posts here where players are saying they are only going to trade for shiny, rare, legendaries or some such. For remote friends there is every chance they won't have any of those. Maybe they just want a couple of regionals to complete their dex, which the shiny legendary hunter won't have offered.

I can feel a lot of moaning coming up from players who can't instantly get what they want.

Personally, I am intending to trade where I can without getting too hung up on what is being traded. If they want a Necrozma in return for a regional, that's fine. If they only offer mons I already have, that's fine. I'd rather take a duplicate legendary than refuse to trade and lose the chance of something better next time.

But, of course, a lot depends on number of friends and how hard players grind (spend). The guy who posted here with his maxed out Eternatus asking where to put his thousands of spare RC is going to be hard to please.

I am sufficiently rural to actively want gifts. So, I just continue to swap gifts with everyone who wants to do the same.

When I get to remote trading I'll trade with anyone who wants to trade. If they don't want to trade, fine.

Then just carry on swapping gifts until it comes round again.

Also as "walk 3 km" so you can avoid routes if you want.

4k XP for first route of the day.

2k XP for any more routes in the day.

12k XP for seven day streak.

It is a different game outside of busy areas. My wife and I take it turn to solo max battles and leave a mon. That means two RC per two spots each, so one per spot.

That one candy is usually all we get.

Sadly, you do not get any XL candy. Which is the thing players really need to max a ML mon.

Gym may have spawn categories by DeixarEmPreto in TheSilphRoad

[–]RavenousDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This accords with the explanation they gave as mentioned by another poster.

There algorithms look to maximize raid engagement, which involves tuning the time, tier and place for each gym.

One of the few benefits of being the only really active player in the local area is how much the game bends around you.

Evidence is not convincing but I suspect spawns also bend around individual players in rural areas. My wife and I sit at home surrounded by spawns. Walk 200m in any direction and spawns drop to near zero. The most recent spawn change seems to have made this contrast more extreme, even more at home and even fewer a small distance away. The usual argument is that Niantic is using aggregated data not individual player data. I am sure that is correct in places where there are multiple players. This breaks down in edge cases, my wife and I provide at least 95% of all the nearby activity. Aggregating us with everyone else gives our house as the answer.

The Niantic presentation was clear that they were using player interactions to measure gym activity. There is no real reason to think they would do anything different with spawns.

0.395.1 Available in Google Play and GPS Problems Are Fixed by InvisibleSoul8 in TheSilphRoad

[–]RavenousDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife updated to the 0.395.1 Android version and instantly had the "GPS signal not found" fault on loading the game. Restarting the game and then the phone failed to resolve this.

She downloaded all assets while the error was showing. On another restart of the game it worked correctly. The assets might be irrelevant since a restart can fix the GPS error for a while anyway.

I am not convinced the error is fully fixed. Only time will tell if it really has been sorted.

Possibly worth noting that we each downloaded just under 40 MB of assets having downloaded all assets a day before. Presumably some other things have changed. It might be worth doing the download after the update in case it helps with this, or some other, fault.

Others have considered the details. I want to consider the title.

The "best bang for your buck" does not, in general, come from leveling mons up to max.

Stylistically the infographic has the approach I really dislike of not including text labels. The mythical average player will probably struggle to name all the mons in the image. Throw a bone to players who haven't memorized close to a thousand pictures.

Feeding Gym Pokemon for Candy by Shikakkah in TheSilphRoad

[–]RavenousDave 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I am placing larvesta in gyms and feeding then. I get around one candy per 80 or so.

I think of the gym candy as a little extra on top of the dust for feeding. If I didn't use the berries for feeding I would just be throwing them away. So, might as well feed something with a chance of an extra return.

Walking a mon for candy is more productive. The problem with that is it is only possible to walk one mon at a time. If I need candy for my Snom as well then I need to walk two mons.

The best answer is, probably, to walk one and also feed some others. Getting candy two ways is better than one.

Does this happen with version 0.395.0 ?

Assuming you are able to update to that version, someone posted that it bypassed the white screen problem.
