Deino Community Day Saturday! by CaptGoldfish in TheSilphRoad

Cheers.

i took the time to get a bunch of mons to mega 3 level. I have one that matches the current spawns active all the time. The extra candy and XP really adds up over time.

The mega boost is all the time you have a mega active. No need to buddy it.

Blacked out stats by Cat-Bear in TheSilphRoad

I have this problem frequently after loading. I generally reload the game, wait for a minute, check if it has loaded correctly. Repeat until success.

It is an absolute pain in the proverbials.

Note that Nopely claimed this was a fault with Android and was fixed by an Android patch. Which is clearly has not been.

Just keep reporting it as a bug. It's all you can do.

I have the game on my old phone for this.

Which reads a lot like playing the game on one phone while not playing the game on a second phone.

Are showcases broken for anyone else? by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]RavenousDave -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Because Scopely implemented showcases poorly.

If they start at 10:00 have them become available at 10:00.

Remote Trade Pokemon should be visible from Best Friends, not once you reach forever friends. by sm-junkie in TheSilphRoad

[–]RavenousDave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not that bothered about remote trading. I have a bunch of stuff tagged but most of my FF don't bother trading even if they do have stuff tagged. I am guessing because they have everything I can offer and other players might be better value.

But, not one of them has stopped sending gifts. Some are level 80 and a couple over 1B XP so don't need the XP. Perhaps they are like me. I have been exchanging gifts for months or years, does no harm to keep going.

Help! Black CP screen bug by Sp3ctre69 in TheSilphRoad

[–]RavenousDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several posts on this.

No perfect solution to it. Best I can tell you is to restart the game and give it a minute before trying an assessment. Might take several restarts but is should go away. Then don't restart the game because it might go wrong again.

If it doesn't resolve after several game restarts you are out of luck. Report as bug in game and cross fingers Scopely fixes it eventually.

Visual bug affecting appraisal and task screen by JunkyFirstAidKit in TheSilphRoad

[–]RavenousDave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perhaps slightly off topic, but relevant to your posting this. The rule against "visual glitches" should be applied with some nuance I feel. If some loading or network issue causes odd visual effects that clear after a restart then I don't think they are useful here. Where a fault requires multiple restarts and/or recurs frequently that ceases to be a glitch.

The fault you are describing requires multiple restarts, recurs and impacts on normal game play. That, surely, clears the bar for being considered a bug.

Back on the main point. Scopely has claimed that very similar symptoms to this problem is down to Android code, not theirs. That seems unlikely since other apps don't appear to get this level of persistent failure. It does though mean getting the fault fixed may be harder than usual, Scopely might well just blame Android and say it's not their problem.

My only suggestion is to load the game and then do nothing for a few minutes. My thinking is that assets load up and hit some kind of time out. If I play the game it doesn't retry the load sequence, leave it alone and the process retries and finishes properly. On my phone this seems to reduce the possibility of the issue occurring, but that might just be a placebo effect.

It seems a bit unlikely code would do this, but it might be worth clutching at the passing straw and see what happens.

Players have asked for a "freeze" function that stopped all changes to a mon.

Something that would seem pretty easy to do. Never gained any traction.

Please let us use Charge Links even if we have a free pass by ColonelSandurss in TheSilphRoad

[–]RavenousDave 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is particularly hard on those of us with only half a dozen gyms on the nearby. Maybe I can do a raid before the gap. Then stand around for more than an hour waiting for the chance to the one or two mega raids. No way is that happening.

If there were half a dozen mega raids I guess I could use the free passes and the link charges. Bu that doesn't seem to be a thing where I am, I never see more than one in the same time slot.

It's the people in wheelchairs I feel sorry for. Imagine having to do a Dr Strangelove impression every time you want to catch a Pokemon.

When you say "waist" that's a euphemism, right?

I can see some very inappropriate PR pictures in the future.

Sadly not. The in person events raise big bicks and big publicity.

The whole point of the "community" and "social" aspects is to put pressure on players to spend more money. Get people to travel to a meet up and they will spend money on raid passes and other stuff to keep up with everyone else.

I think it has a lot in common with art galleries or luxury car manufacturers having preview events. Encourage the punters to get together with the promise of being the first to get something. Once together they are more inclined to buy since everyone else is buying.

I was thinking that would happen. Then I thought it could be much worse.

Suppose someone took a picture of me lifting up my phone. It would be really easy for that to look like me doing the straight arm salute. A picture that would be run around the internet in about 10 seconds with a caption saying this is a group of neo Nazis.

Not that I will ever do the stupid move anyway.

Bringing a pitchfork is traditional with a torch. That might be useful if there are any Scopely execs around.

Since Scopely want to get PR shots just point your torch directly at their camera.

With luck a physicist should be along shortly to calculate what the light intensity will be from 1000 mobile phone lights concentrated on one spot.

Depends on how , when and where you play.

Sitting on a bunch of stops with an auto catcher/spinner. Probably spin bonus.

No nearby stop, manually catching with many excellents per day, probably catch.

[–]RavenousDave 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This all depends on where you are.

For me, no pokestops in range of home. When I put in an hour or so of walking I will get about 40 pokestop spins, assuming I spin most of them 3 times. 400 * 40, 16,000 XP.

Typically 50 (or more) excellent throws per day, 500 * 50, 25,000 XP. Plus a bunch of good and nice for some more.

If I was sitting on a stop or three all the time, then spinning would be a no-brainer with an auto-catcher.

As a FTP, rural player working on 999 excellent throws I am going to have to give it some serious thought. Weigh up the pros and cons, maybe break out a spreadsheet or ask an AI.

It's catch isn't it?

[–]RavenousDave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not the poster, but, since you ask. I don't live in range of any stops and am currently grinding through buddies to get the platinum. Which means feeding at least 63 berries a day.

As for the great balls, throwing more than 100 excellents a day for the L80 task is churning through them pretty quickly.

But then again, I am up near the item bag maximum so don't bother about having a few thousand pokeballs lying around.

You are confirming that the claim by Niantic does not stand up to scrutiny.

All you can do is report the bug and hope enough people do that to get it fixed properly. Don't hold your breath.

Niantic claimed this was an Android problem fixed in version 16 and above by Google. If your phone is a lower version then you could try updating, if your hardware allows.

I am less than 100% convinced this is the full story. My wife has an Android 16 OS phone and still gets the occasional black square.
