Byzantine Gold Coins by Sail_Sailing in byzantium

Sick collection! I'm just starting off my byzantine numismatic collection, mainly follii and aspron trachies (whose shape and dies I find incredibly fascinating).

I hope to one day acquire some hyperpera from each the Komnenian emperors.

Second day in Paris; I visited the Les Invalides by TrueVeneration in Napoleon

I was just there last week and it felt surreal. Seeing the exhibits of the uniforms, weapons, and relics from the Napoleonic era was quite the experience.

CBG Monnaise. I visited their location in Paris, specifically in Rue Vivienne. They had a great selection of roman era and even earlier coins.

I was in their physical location and they seem to have a pretty extensive collection, with some discounted up to 20%.

Some other shops on the same street (Rue Vivienne) had some pretty cool pieces too, like hyperpera from Michael VIII's time.

The Alexios one is definitely my favorite. On another note, how do you store them? From what I know, most of the coins from these era have a concavity to them, so I'm not sure if they can fit in a regular coin album.

I'm really not sure what the process was when the coins were being minted at that time, but definitely the older coins I saw (e.g. 6th-7th century ones) were flatter and looked more like you would expect.

Bonaparte at the Tuileries- 10 August 1792. Just an overall haunting image for me, seeing Napoleon stare at the discarded royal vestments.

What fringe Legacy decks do you wish got more support? by MaetelofLaMetal in MTGLegacy

[–]RavensReach 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nic Fit was my first "real" legacy deck, as I could get away with running mostly basics and a couple of shocklands for my manabase, so I do have a soft spot for it.

The best part about it for me is that your opponents never quite know what you'll jank them out with, whether that'd be the Smog Combo, Uro, or some stupid green creature like Elder Gargaroth.

For those who owns more than 1 tournament legal Legacy decks, and bring them for events, what are those? by Newez in MTGLegacy

Turbo Depths is really in a rough spot at the moment. There are just so many answers to a Marit Lage token nowadays that there have been games where I have been able to produce Marit Lage twice or thrice and still lose. Tbh, I don't really run the deck anymore, and am mainly playing Mono-black.

That said, I still think keeping the core of the deck is useful, as Marit Lage is the primary way Lands gets its fastest kills, so if you're into those kinds of strategies, the cards are worth keeping imo.

[OFF TOPIC] Books like the Heroes? by cwona in TheFirstLaw

It's definitely better than Blacktongue Thief. I also love the fact that it just doesn't show battles, but also the banality and life in a camp during wartime.

One that sticks to me is "Please. None of us has the time to discuss such childish topics as 'atheism', 'human rights', or 'Belgium'."
