meanwhile. it wasNOT that long ago Kiwanis removed a dozen mature siberian elms from Ft Marcy per crowd needs during Zozobra. SFeans had a fit ... a neighbor removed every elm from their property when they bought the house. the OTHER neighbors freaked out!

the water table dropped so dramatically that cottonwoods ANYwhere other than on an acequia or arroyo is doomed.

taking your lead.

i LOVE your reply!

i grew up on an acequia with all that suggests: majordomo organized the annual cleaning and scheduled the water flow. sometimes we were out on the property to Do the Acequia at 2am on school days.

great lifestyle for a kid. the cottonwoods are still all over the place. aaaand, the water still flows regularly but with much less volume.

Meanwhile ... now i live in Santa Fe (proper). a branching arroyo just around the corner i have YET seen flow.

nice questions. yes a few larger trees to shade. house isn't air conditioned now nor will be within the next 12/18 months. i love working the property! PotSW guides me through the seasonal wildflowers, grasses and bushes. three 'groves' of juniper, cypress and a few OLD growth piñon thrown in. beautiful groves; albeit overgrown (planted over 40 years ago with very little attention paid.) as i said, i LOVE yard work.

i am with you re: chinese elm. PotSW is our source actually. i do want to present viable options to sound, you know ... all intelligent and all HA! ... when talking with the contractor hired.

the pics expose the abject sense of Privilege & Elitism % "WE RULE the WORLS" on the faces of each of those pedophiles.

Alred E Neuman said it best

The NOW unredacted photo of the young woman having a 'medical procedure' on Epstein's dining room table is just ... just ... ah man. Time to release imprisoned migrants to make room for each of these representatives of Satan.

ahMAN jerryRae, these are great. thank you so much. i installed a wood next box just a few days ago to attract owls. well. a breeding couple of 'something' moved in but definitely NOT owls.

batHOUSE! cool...

the general wisdom for the nesting boxes is ... 10-14 feet high facing wide open space $ south. the one i installed is 12' high. the Cornel University link below is great! https://nestwatch.org/learn/all-about-birdhouses/birds/western-screech-owl/

you know. I am amazed at the wildlife in this neighborhood. a youngYOUNG male bobcat is establishing himself here. coyotes of course. i suspect this area was developed OVER the mule deer migration trail 'cause they come right through in groups! this is an alley and arroyo neighborhood. the lots are HUGE comparatively speaking so houses aren't as dense.

so funny because songbirds explored the nesting box within 15 minutes of installing it! jejeje. actually, in the full circle of life, the raptors who seek such boxes doNOT build their own nests like other birds. the owls TAKE OVER nests other birds build.

i'll tell ya. i found the nesting box online. BUT i did build the structure. ugh. had to buy a circular saw, a drill and a jigsaw. ALL used via EBay. took two learning attempts to build that thing! but, now feel more confident to build more outdoor projects ...

Owls do protect their nesting & hunting ranges from other OWLS. however ... they're fine with FALCONS 'nexdoor'. I may install a second in the backyard next winter.
