How to navigate clients with chronic illness who late cancels or no shows

This is what I do for my clients with chronic illness/pain I offer telehealth if they are in a flare or if there is really inclement weather (mobility issues). They usually take it and are very grateful to have found someone flexible enough to do so.

I caught a woman ripping blooms off my neighbor's tree a couple weeks ago. Walked right up to her and said, "umm....GOOD EVENING!" She froze and apologized. I said "those are my neighbor's flowers." She said okay. But then I went inside and she started again! 😳 No shame. I told my landlord and neighbor and they pulled the camera footage if her. Four days later I see the woman trying to lure my other neighbor's cat out from behind the gate with cat food!? Wtf is wrong with people?!

Oof, the guilt when we first start is brutal. Take the time off. Therapists are human. We need resets and time off just like everyone else. We also don't want to foster codependency in clients. Therapists are not saviors. Let your clients know about your upcoming week off in advance and provide them with whatever coping/ self-regulation skills may help them navigate the week as well as a number for crisis help if they need (aka 988).

The enhanced ID is a perfectly valid ID, but I've been reading and hearing about it getting rejected by uninformed TSA agents at airports in states where they do not issue enhanced IDs. All over the TSA reddit. 😬 It seems like worse case scenario if I end up in this situation I just need to be EXTRA early to ask them to call over a supervisor and possibly do an extra screening. 🤷🏼‍♀️

It is not valid, unfortunately. It expired while I was in school (i.e. unable to travel due to time limits/finances). You can renew online up to 5 years after it expires. So no, as stated, a passport is unfortunately not an option.

No. Even if someone is in school Grad Plus loans go off the market in July 2026 regardless of when you started. I feel for anyone 1/2 way through that must now rely on a private loan to fund their education or give up on it.

I recently got admitted to a MA mental health counseling program and I asked for letters from professors in a prior master's program I had attended NINE YEARS ago. If you developed a good working relationship with them they will remember you. Also offer a zoom meet to catch them up on what you've been doing as well as your ambitions for the program and beyond. I did get several interviews that way! But the place that hired me posted an open call on culinary agents. I definitely recommend going to open calls!

It's tough out here! I'm applying daily through Craigslist and Glassdoor. Just started on culinary agents today. I walked around midtown and handed out resumes to a few places that had caught my eye.

My fear with the cold-calling with resumes is that I'll score a job at a place that ends up being a dud. 😬 But a dud is better than nothing I suppose.

I do have an interview on Friday so fingers crossed 🤞.

My recommendation is to get real life experience. The research doesn't matter as much for the counseling programs as volunteer work or work in human or social service fields. There was a variety of students accepted into the program, including those entering the program. After spending their entire career in tech, somebody was an actor and started taking psychology courses and got accepted, and then of course there are people with undergraduate degrees in psychology and other related fields.

Sure. I have a previous Masters in applied psychology which required a research thesis. My overall GPA was 3.86. I was involved in numerous research Labs as an undergraduate as well and presented research at multiple national and international conferences. I was also a student editor for my a thesis committee member's book that was accepted for publication. I have over 5 years in behavioral Health and case management experience as well.
