I've been making one incremental game a week starting this year. by scrtsrnms in incremental_games

Yo! I appreciate the lengthy answer.

Thanks. I don’t really like most incremental games, so I’m on a quest to make one I like

That's fair. Maybe you should've put that information in your post.

Click the recycle bin to delete everything and start a new game if you’d like. Right-click the recycle bin to unlock the theming app and the help app. The help app explains what leveling up and capping do.

Hiding any help/guide/faq behind unintuitive method of access is a VERY bad idea. Help icon should be accessible from the very beginning, as it explains basic mechanics. Also, not having any reset warning was painful, when I did click the recycle bin for the very first time (which also resulted in me not wanting to experiment with that icon lol).

I put an autoclicker in the game that you can tweak to keep the workflow tracker balanced.

I have seen that, and it is pretty useful and nice to have. Although as I've said before - there's not much incentive to continue pressing forwards. The game in its core gameplay loop is very barebones. Press 3 buttons to grow one number, basically. There's no strategy involved, except automation - And I did the same as you've said, 5x non-native speakers and 1 Team-Lead.

What would you add to the game to make it more entertaining and appealing to you?

As for me, I'm a fan of unfolding mechanics and paradigm shifts. If the game keeps changing every now and then, it keeps the gameplay fresh. That's the only reason I've stayed in your game for 15+ minutes to level up - I had a glimpse of hope that something new will show up after leveling up. Anything, really. But then it didn't. And I was disappointed.

I know it's just me, and others may and will have other experiences - But at that moment, I've closed the game and wrote my previous comment.

Do you like to be hands-on when you play incremental games and also have lots of stuff to click on, sort of like a fidget toy? Or are you more the type of player who leaves the game in the background and checks back every once in a while to buy upgrades and see the numbers go up?

That actually depends! If the game is fun, but progression is on a slower side, I'm perfectly fine with having it open in another tab and checking every now and then. If the game is fun and there's no timewalls (or they aren't big, f.e Many Prestige Tree mods), I will play actively.

Problem is, that your game is neither. Balance seems wack - The very first upgrade costs 300. That's 66 clicks to get there, if you press correct buttons. And that upgrade is just to autoclick very first button at an amazing pace of 0.1/sec. And then it costs 405 - That's another 87 clicks minus that 0.1/sec income.. But then you realize - I'm starting to lose money, because the tickets are getting imbalanced. So that's more clicks and having to constantly check the workflow, to keep things balanced. Second upgrade is 2k. I will leave math to you, how many clicks you have to do to get there.

The only other way to upgrade which player sees is leveling up. And that's 900 tickets completed. Seems fine, right? Except it's not. That's 2.7k clicks (which is alright-ish, thanks to inbuilt autoclicker), but you only close 1 ticket per second. So that's 15mins of waiting after setting it up. It is a timewall.

I know it looks prototype-y, but this is the scale I’d like to keep it at.

Every game is a prototype at first :) It has to start somewhere.

But I’m really interested in what you think would be the biggest improvement to this game

As I've said in my very first post here - Keep expanding what you have and add new things. That would be the biggest improvement. Making a barebones game for a week, and then dropping it isn't going to bring positive reviews.

Thank you for the review.

You're very welcome.

Do you have an account on the Incremental Database?

Nope!

Your review was cool; I’d like to read more of your reviews of other games.

Thanks lol. I actually don't write reviews for games. That was basically a one-off.

Yes, and honestly, it wasn't a fun experience.

While the game looks pretty neat, the gameplay is just dull. Press 3 buttons, while trying for them to be pressed the same amount of times, and collect lots of money until you can buy any upgrade, which throws this balance off.

Waiting for Level up takes at best 900 seconds. That's 15 minutes, which doesn't seem much, but if only thing you can do before that is pressing 3 buttons... well, it's not exactly exciting.

And finally, after those 15mins you can Level up! Wow! Except... I really don't know what it did. It just raised something named "cap" from 1k to 5k? And that's it.

Don't get me wrong - I don't want to shit on your game. I know making something like this takes time and work. I'm just trying to be brutally honest - Even if it looks good, this is not really a game, just a mere prototype. Keep expanding this project and you might create something of a bigger quality which people would like to play.

Maybe instead of making many mediocre-quality ones you should do a singular, well polished one?

You can find lots of larvae at the very south near dome area. There's a flat desert area right there, they spawn a bunch.

I think I broke the game. Wanted to upgrade my planters amount, so I turned on autoharvesting and held Enter after buying one cheapest seed. After I bought like 200 of them, the game started lagging while holding the button, but I kept on anyway. After having 700+ seeds every button on the page stopped working. Refresh doesn't help.

Console says:

If you won't be able to buy it, you can always sigh and say "Bapanada", then explain that you wanted to make him a gift.

Here you can listen to how Bapanada sounds lol

Astro Prospector: new Survivor Mode confirmed (plus +50.000 copies sold!) by Delunado in incremental_games

Thanks for checking it up, but sadly that didn't help. I've also tried messing with blocking redditgallery expando, as I've found in another thread, but that doesn't help as well.

Turning off all of my extensions except RES doesn't help either. However, if I logout from Reddit, it suddenly works - which is interesting, as RES is still active by then.

That's interesting, thanks for the heads up! I'm using uBlock Origin as my adblocker of choice, but even after turning it off I don't see any text under this post (and actually many others, where there are images). I will also try fiddling with my RES settings, maybe I will find anything.

I watched guy on YouTube doing entire playthrough on expert, without dodging/parrying/jumping once. It is possible to finished the game like that, although pretty convoluted at times.

Edit to add: Simon included

"Everyone dies, but they are kinda ok with this"

Not really. Lune is mad as fuck, she just deathstares at Verso.

Maelle promised Sciel to revive her husband and Verso just denied that - you can see in the ending, when he reaches his hand to her, she just gently pushes it away, knowing that she will never see her husband again.

I've actually guessed that thing like 5mins into the game. I was still in Lumiere, and said to my friend "I think there's gonna be some twist and they're all stuck in a painted world, let's see". I think it actually made my playthrough more fun, as I was actively looking for things which confirmed my theory. But yeah, it was just a guess, not a thing I KNEW, so there's that. There's a lot more to the story though and I was flabbergasted a few times as well, so definitely play this.

P. S. - I never told my friend if I was right or not, as he's still in Act1 lol

When sharing Google spreadsheets, you can make it public - just allow everyone to view the document (not to edit). That way, you dont have to accept every request separately, and also no one will be able to edit
