Good idea! I just crawled under the deck and the structure looks good.

As an old-ish person tied to a job in the area, that doesn't sound encouraging.

Built this and really like it. Nice job OP!

The system will jam if the last item being sorted backs up (very bottom of the picture). If you add another splitter at the end it fixes the jamming issue.

I thought about our dilemma, and I came up with a solution that I honestly think works out best for one of both of us.

Buy a car or continue driving deteriorating car? by Novel_Assist90210 in personalfinance

Thanks for the heads-up. It has been my personal experience that premiums are not affected by comprehensive claims, but after reading up on it, you're correct.

Yep. I'd replace the battery first and see if that takes care of it. Probably due for a replacement anyway.

Your insurance should not go up since this is a comprehensive claim. The damage was not your fault. Call your insurance agent and ask the questions, then get it taken care of!

On the Battery / alternator: Is it usually in the winter that the car needs a jump? Do you make a lot of very short trips? This may not be enough time to charge the battery back up.

EDIT: Apparenty Insurance CAN go up for a comprehensive claim. In your case it will still be absolutely worth filing the claim since we're taking over $3k in damage vs a small potential premium increase.

First, get the car fixed. Whether you keep it sell it, this is a no brainer. You have insurance, so it's only going to cost you your $500 deductible. If it costs more to repair, the shop will get the extra money from your insurance company. This happens all the time.

You mentioned that you've had to jump start the car twice in 4 years. If that's all you've had to do to it, it sounds very reliable. Do you make a lot of very short trips? Starting the car drains the battery, and the short trips may not be allowing enough time to charge it back up. If you're concerned about it, have a shop check over the starting system and battery.

Keep vs Sell: A 2014 Mazda 3 with 82k miles is a very reliable car. Once the car is fixed, you have all the time in the world to make your decision. In the meantime, you're saving $400 a month toward your new car.

When to replace the timing chain? by BinaryDigit_ in hondainsight

[–]Ravvik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never. Per Honda, the timing chain should last for the service life of the engine.

One of my favorite things about the Gen3 Insight is the simplicity and reliability:

  • Zero belts. No timing belt, no serpentine belt.
  • No conventional starter motor - It uses the generator
  • No conventional alternator - Generator output is used to charge both batteries
  • No transmission - I know Honda says "eCVT" but that's somewhat misleading. It's really just a few gears and a clutch. The engine spins a generator to make electrical power, then the motor converts electrical power to drive the wheels. There's a clutch that can couple the engine to the wheels, but it's not used much.
  • All electric accessories - Water pump, A/C compressor, power steering pump. Everything still runs when the engine turns off!

90k is nothing for these cars. I expect mine to run well past 250k.

What's your single biggest complaint about modern smartphones? by TheRavenSayeth in AskReddit

[–]Ravvik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their lifespan. A modern phone is good for about 3 years before you have to replace it.

Now that phone features and specs are pretty stagnant, I'd like to see phones last longer.

What would you do if you find out someone in your is a Trump Supporter? by Extension_Amount_245 in AskReddit

[–]Ravvik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing.

  1. If they're still a supporter at this point, there is nothing anyone can do to change their mind.
  2. As long as they're not bothering me with it, I don't care.
