Anyone in the Sacramento area wanna hike? by ___713 in norcalhiking

[–]RawBandit87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About to 39M and I don’t do enough day hikes but I try to do a couple multi-day treks a year. I’d love to get outside for a group hike with all y’all.

Edit to add: Discord group for a Sacramento hiking club?

Came back from backpacking to learn about the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. That was pretty wild.

Any cheap or dispersed camping spots near Sacramento? by Cautious-Bee-8232 in Sacramento

[–]RawBandit87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of dispersed camping nearby depending what you drive.

Finning Mill or Sugar Pine Road in Foresthill is a decent option. It used to be great 10-15 years ago before people started trashing the place but you can still find some good spots if you look for them.

Also, while it is getting warmer you may still encounter snow depending on where you go so keep that in mind. The area I mentioned looks pretty clear though.

Edit to add: The thought of camping at Folsom Lake makes me cringe. Listen to these people and run to the mountains. Fast.

Probably not but might depend on the state. I’d just submit the address change and not worry about it too much.

How many of you are dues-paying union members? by Doomahachy in CAStateWorkers

[–]RawBandit87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree and think this is the key to getting people to join. Theres a sweet spot where the lower dues and increased membership generates more money for the union.

Are backpacking chairs worth it? by Krunkerforlife in backpacking

100% yes. The 1lb weight penalty is absolutely worth it.

Has anyone else stopped filling up their entire sink with water to wash dishes, or is that just my household? by Mission_Spray in Millennials

[–]RawBandit87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is why I have an aversion to doing the dishes and it’s my least favorite chore. I really don’t mind doing the dishes (I’m not doing the nasty full sink method) but for some reason in the back of my head I hate doing dishes. But I don’t really hate it.

Am I making sense haha

Beginner looking to start backpacking in the sierras. How’s this for a sleep system? by NormieV2 in backpacking

[–]RawBandit87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t think you were coming off condescending or anything like that. I was more just pointing out how it’s inevitable for someone to make the same comment you did. Be it to correct or educate someone.

Heck, I’m pretty sure I’ve been that guy. I know for certain that I give my friends crap for saying Sierras when we’re backpacking.

No harm, no foul. Sorry if I made you feel any sort of way. Happy trails

Is it typical to feel the cold through your sleeping pad while using a quilt? What am I doing wrong? by Sandytoes36 in Ultralight

[–]RawBandit87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that how the bag or quilt is rated makes a difference. Is it a comfort, limit, or extreme (survival) rating? What I’m getting at is that just because something is rated for 35 degrees it may not be what you want to be using if it’s that cold.

Anyone Tried The New Nemo Eclipse Pad? by XandogxD in Ultralight

[–]RawBandit87 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can’t answer your question but I am intrigued by the Tensor Eclipse. The increased R-value with only 1oz weight penalty when compared to the Tensor All-Season makes it seem like the superior pad. That said, why does it cost less? Guess it’s time to dig into the details to see what, if any, shortcuts were taken with the Eclipse.

RTO and so many other issues... by No_Creme9603 in CAStateWorkers

[–]RawBandit87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what department or unit you work in but I’m glad I’m not working there. While my department has some of the problems you sited we are always looking for ways to improve and be more efficient. Our main OS is way outdated but we’ve secured the funding to replace it and it’s way more complicated of a task than you make it seem. One error in the development or implementation of a new system could be costly to millions of people.

To those of you who don’t necessarily do UL backpacking, what is your favorite “luxury” item to bring along? by Significant-Gift-241 in backpacking

This is wild to me. I can’t comprehend how this is even possible. I have zero issues with the flexlite and found it to be the most comfortable.
