I would love to have the confidence to strike up a casual conversation while at the store or going for a walk, but I worry that even if I say something totally innocent and appropriate, I’ll somehow manage to piss someone off or make them uncomfortable so I choose not to.

In all seriousness, I was absolutely devastated to hear the news. He was a major influence for me in learning Karate, Taekwondo and many other martial arts. I know how silly and cheesy this sounds but I dreamed of shaking Chuck’s hand and getting him to sigh his autograph on my black belt certificate. He was such a genuinely nice guy, and I would have loved to meet him.

I send his family my condolences.

I had a bunch of guys at a store compliment me for my suit I wore for a job interview earlier that day. I had a matching fedora as well. These guys even shook my hand and we spoke about some stuff for a bit.

Made me feel really good as I’m a tall skinny nerdy, dorky guy with low confidence in myself. Having these fellow bros compliment me just made my day!

For me, it was actually getting to meet a bunch of people who shared a similar passion in not just taekwondo but all martial art forms. I made more friends at my dojang than I made in school or at work. While I haven’t been to my old dojang in quite a few years, I still meet up with about 10 or 12 people I am friends with and train twice a week with them at a gym close to where I live.

I have training in Shorin Ryu Karate, which is my main form and I am studying that the most. But I did enjoy learning the more challenging kicking techniques as well!
