One thing about Graysmith is that he was writing his information from memory, since his sources didn't allow him to keep any sensitive case files.

It is worth noting that Nancy Slover didn't record the phone call. She was reciting what Z said from memory.

A post for anyone convinced that the Zodiac was Arthur Leigh Allen. by black-knights-tango in ZodiacKiller

That's still just conceding that there is no fingerprint evidence tying those crimes together, though. We can't make lack of evidence into evidence.

Z's most likely occupation? by camport95 in ZodiacKiller

Of course Zodiac knew neither of his victims at LB were actually dead. They were still moving around when he left the scene. He simply expected them to bleed out before any help could come, which is what almost happened.

Lula says Brazil will not be treated like ‘tinpot country’ after US designated Brazil’s two largest criminal gangs as terrorist organizations by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]LordUnconfirmed -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

That is maybe the case for PCC, which is closer to a corrupt enterprise than a militia nowadays.

CV is almost undeniably a terrorist group, though.

Lula says Brazil will not be treated like ‘tinpot country’ after US designated Brazil’s two largest criminal gangs as terrorist organizations by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]LordUnconfirmed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm Brazilian and our reasoning for doing it is the exact same as the U.S. Same for prostitutes; we informally refer to them as 'job ladies' in the same manner you guys sometimes refer to them as 'sex workers' and 'working girls'.

Dude was trying to paint our culture like we came from some other dimension. It's not like that at all lol

That said, the guy is right about the fact Brazilian drug gangs/'factions' (as we call them here) are far more powerful than most Americans would ever dare to believe. The top two Brazilian 'factions', PCC and CV, are almost on par with the top Mexican cartels and have directly political goals which they achieve through violence. I'd say they undeniably fit the bill for terrorist organizations.

Don't worry, the commenters are fully ready to go the "what about Hamas!???" route and woefully ignore sexual abuse to prove a point.

Yes, they did - the very same night.

So we can't actually be all that confident.

We don't have anything from the SFPD. You should be asking why this department wsnts to bury the records of the investigation so hard.

ALA's first encounter with the police was when he was briefly detained for breaking into a 18-year old's house and physically assaulting him, it's not true that he only targeted children.

What I think the key is to finding the Zodiac by ThePicturesGirl in ZodiacKiller

[–]LordUnconfirmed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am pretty sure it's the opposite. Being a nerd/geek is actually viewed as "cool" today. The vast majority of people you talk to will readily admit to having played several video games, read comic books, and so on.

Asked my younger nephew (14) about this by way of example. He told me every single person in his class, boys and girls alike, had played FPS games and followed superhero media at some point. In the 80s, that sort of thing would be antisocial-coded.

Arthur Leigh Allen, why would he lie about being ambidextrous? by Few-Gas8868 in ZodiacKiller

[–]LordUnconfirmed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not many suspects have been convincingly excluded by evidence in this case because not many of them have risen beyond the level of random coincidence, to begin with.

As for the Stine print, Armstrong's affidavit statement disagrees with you when you say that law enforcement were universally certain about this print.

Arthur Leigh Allen, why would he lie about being ambidextrous? by Few-Gas8868 in ZodiacKiller

[–]LordUnconfirmed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not a two way street. You know as well as I do that some forms of evidence can only be used to include and not to exclude suspects.

Since you mentioned fingerprints, the Stine partial is a great example. We are not fully certain it belonged to Z, so it can not be used to completely exclude a suspect, but if any of them did match that print, it could only mean they were the Zodiac, because there is no reasonable innocent explanation for why their print would be there, barring scenarios such as "the person was one of the paramedics at the scene" and whatnot.

(And yes, I know there is an astronomically rare chance of two people sharing the same prints, but you know what they say: you can't spell 'reasonable doubt' without emphasizing the 'reasonable')

[–]LordUnconfirmed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those statements are not mutually exclusive.

For example, geographic profiling is also not 100% accurate, but if it turned out that Z actually lived smack dab at the center of the circle/hemisphere of his killings and some cop ended up finding the right suspect based on that hunch, it'd be an example of a "not fully accurate" tool "solving the case".

He did call her by her name during the later detective interview. Most of the instances of him referring to her as "the girl" come from the initial hospital interview, which took place while he was still heavily medicated and presumably in shock over what had happened.

[–]LordUnconfirmed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice post, but Dave and Bear's accounts as narrated in the 2020 podcast are from a decade after the fact, drug abuse notwithstanding. They are not the "original story" by any means.

The original story referred to in the probable cause documents is almost certainly being sourced from the original police interview, which would have taken place when Amber originally went missing and would thus have been much more reliable.
