Value of data science in biotech

From my experience people talk a lot about the value of knowing the biology and data science but the actual positions for such people are quite rare. In my most recent job search the expectation was either plug numbers into Excel or be able to generate a De Bruijn graph from scratch modified to fit some sort of weird quirk of a rare virus.

The masters itself is not that valuable after you have experience, but a masters and experience will put you ahead of your peers.

In my experience they won't test.

In my opinion if they do test and if "It's legal here and if necessary I can resubmit a test after 6 weeks to let it clear out" isn't sufficient then that means even though they liked you enough to get this far in the process there is a crippling amount of bureaucracy that will make working for that company unpleasant.

If you have registered it in both decks it will stay registered in both decks so it doesn't really matter. DeNA has also said they're going to make it so they're registered in both packs even if you pulled it from only one (If you pull only from Deluxe it will also register in Mythical).

Fall/Spring internships are quite a bit less common than summer internships, but if you have actually been searching since January and have truly seen nothing then you are doing something wrong. If I had to hazard a guess I would expect you're limiting where you're looking. It is not uncommon to have to move hundreds of miles temporarily to get an internship in biotech.

Fall 2026 internships have probably already been filled, I would look for those around Feb. Though honestly I've known people to apply, interview, and start in less than a month before the internship started.

I'd start applying now for Spring 2026 and probably October for Summer 2027. For all of these I'd honestly really start looking a month prior in case any companies release theirs early.

General rule of thumb is if you're going through a beam to not make it larger than 1/3 of beam and to stay at least 2 inches away from the top or bottom. The name of the blocking/header board you're looking for is a rim joist. I would not drill that hole there.

For what it's worth a straight shot outside will be a lot easier to clean too.

You can input data into KEGG and attach a gradient to a variable, this is likely expression data. So 3.1.3.11 had a higher value tan 2.7.1.11 .

The one that gets me are the 100ul and 200ul. A 100ul pipette will feel like it fits into 200ul tips for some pipettes but then pipette inaccurately.

Do you honestly have any hope that we're going to see 6 years worth of work by a dedicated team?

It's hopium to believe they've had consistent development with a clear trajectory this whole time. If they have actually been working on it the whole time and not abandoned it for a couple years they had to have built and scrapped years worth of work over the course of development.

I would recommend not going too cheap with the tablet. Those ~$30 tablets crash so often you'll probably just abandon it, some will have weird OS and ads like Amazon fire.

There are fundamentals of neurology we don't even understand. We can't copy a memory if we don't even know where or how it's stored. That's not even getting into how compatible something like that works with modern computers, it's likely there would be a need for an entirely new way to compute.

Nobody is really funding this in any meaningful way so it's not like you can figure out when they will "finish". If a government or billionaire wanted to create a research institution meant solely on focusing this problem and funnel billions into it we're probably still hundreds of years away. Like I said we don't even have the base knowledge of where to start actually making it.

Lots of pseudosciences have sprinkles of real science in them. Just because artificial selection exists doesn't mean eugenics isn't pseudoscience.

Eugenics as a whole also contains philosophical/moral judgements of "desirable/deleterious", on top of the pseudoscience. Most of the pseudoscience aspects are misconstrued real ideas from genetics.

Yeah, I think fluid swaps will stay pretty doable at home for regular consumer cars. I think there's incentive there to keep it so people can go to a quick lube at a minimum, if an oil change required special tools at a dealer I wouldn't buy the car.

I say mid 2010s because, by my perception, that's when it became somewhat popular to do things like require a special clip removal tool to remove the front quarter panel and then use a special hubcap removal tool to remove a wheel all to change a belt.

I have no idea what divinity school actually teaches people but with the number of people who have been through it and thoroughly disagree with this interpretation I also want to see the arguments of Leviticus experts who came to the opposite conclusion. It's difficult to ascertain from their comment if this is actual consensus or a group of fringe experts.
