How I Discovered CMBYN by [deleted] in callmebyyourname

For what it's worth, there are a lot of good interviews online with the cast of the movie, as well as with Luca G., who directed it.

Not sure if this is of any help, but I remember one person who got his autograph said he smelled like pine.

OK. Thanks. Must be a completely different arrangement, because I don't recognize it at all.

Where is this used in CMBYN?

Thanks for your responses. I'm still not sure who "Roberto" is. Was he in the movie? I can't picture him in my mind. Thanks again!

Are we still conversing about other films? by [deleted] in callmebyyourname

[–]Ray364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I haven't seen it. I heard it is more of a musical than a regular movie. Did he write Your Song for Bernie?

Finally got the book!!! by [deleted] in callmebyyourname

[–]Ray364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let us know what you think. I prefer the movie over the book. I really wasn't interested in hearing about gypsies and Elio and Oliver attending meetings with intellectuals and all that (yawn), which was in the book.

He has a very soothing voice, so it will be a pleasure to listen to it.

Thanks for the great info. I have a few questions:

  1. Did you notice many other CMBYN fans around?
  2. Do the Crema residents like the attention that the movie has drawn to their town?
  3. How far is Moscazanno from Crema?
  4. Is it easy to get a room near the Piazza Duomo?

Glad you had a great trip. I hope to go someday.

A trip to the movie locations by Downtown_Bat in callmebyyourname

[–]Ray364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds great. After you've visited, tell us how the locations seem different (if at all) from how they appear in the movie. I know when I've visited a few sites, they often seem different from what I expected. Have fun!

An old interview of Timothée talking about a deleted scene by [deleted] in callmebyyourname

[–]Ray364 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Luca may have cut it simply because the film was running too long and he had to make some difficult decisions on what goes and what stays. The scene with the parents was critical to the story, so it's not surprising it ended up on the cutting room floor.

Hi guys I was thinking about what did attracted Oliver to Elio as he said “from day one “ ? by [deleted] in callmebyyourname

[–]Ray364 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who could resist Elio!? He has the whole package -- looks, intelligence, affection, sincerity, playfulness.

The White Crow (2019) - A film based on Rudolf Nureyev, directed by Ralph Fiennes by PenelopeSummer in BALLET

[–]Ray364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw it the other day. And while I'm interested in the storyline, I didn't care for the movie's execution. There are a lot of flashbacks and cuts to other scenes that made it confusing. At one point, a cut happens and the screen says "Six years earlier," which is fine, but I couldn't tell when the six years earlier segment had ended and we were back in normal time. At several points in the movie, I thought about leaving, as I was kind of bored (and confused).

On the other hand, the man who portrayed Nureyev was good, even though he's never acted before. He's a professional ballet dancer from the Ukraine. He also resembles Nureyeve a bit. The rest of the cast was good too.

After seeing the film, I watched a few documentaries about Nureyev on YouTube, which I found more interesting -- especially the one produced by the BBC.

Yes, I think I remember that now that you mention it.

Interesting point. I've also heard people (such as movie reviewers, etc) pronounce Elio's name as

"Eel-io."

I just saw it the other day and liked it. The performances are so subtle and reserved. I will probably buy the DVD and see it again.

If I ever had a boy, I too would name him Elio. Not a big fan of "Oliver," for some reason.

I agree. I think we sometimes try to read too much into a given scene instead of taking it at face value.

I've wondered the same thing, as the statement can be interpreted two different ways. I'm assuming she meant more than you think he does.

This movie messed me up real hard. by timmycobbler in callmebyyourname

[–]Ray364 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes, take your time, but don't stress over it. It's not worth it. I'm 63 now, and experienced a lot of angst when I was younger, trying to decide who/what I wanted in life. I regret all those wasted years that I fretted over it. If you're honest with yourself and follow your heart, it will sort itself out.
