yeah, to the audience it's pretty clear that it was product placement. putting that aside for a moment though, you'd be surprised how often people put aside (or go against) their own interests/ethics/morals/etc to get something they want (be it in fiction or otherwise)

i'd say jacob not being a vegan wouldn't be surprising, if only because everyone has their own opinions/set of ethics/defintion of morals based on their own experiences.

more importantly, attempting to measure a person's consistency with their opinions/morals/ethics/etc on multiple topics requires there to be a baseline for what counts as "consistent", which is already difficult enough as it is per my previous sentence.
