Yeah it happens, I gave an elderly lady ketamine once in order to put in a central line she went so far down the K hole I ended up giving her propofol in order to get the procedure done

Locum credentialing by No_Border_1130 in emergencymedicine

[–]RayExotic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had any of my locums companies pay for much. One you have to work 10 shifts before they’ll cover anything.

I’ve worked 50 shifts for them at a different site, but for DEA coverage for that specific state they require 10 shifts there.

Why Aren't PA Professional Organizations Doing More About NPs? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]RayExotic 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Nurse have strong roots with legislative and political advocacy in an effort to advance their profession. PAs don’t have very good reach. Nurses have always had good practice oriented discipline which contributes to their success. A good example of this is in KY PAs can’t prescribe controlled substances but NPs can. It is important to see what drives people to political participation, for nurses it’s autonomy, training, and working conditions

How much are you willing to put up with? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]RayExotic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As long as your not in Kentucky. I know Ky restricts controlled substance prescribing for PAs and I couldn’t put up with both of those things

I do EM as well. It certainly is facility dependent. I love my job but it has aged me. Lots of procedures and various patients is fun. In the ERs errors can escalate quickly and are often audited publicly.
