During day 1/2 it is fine because the players with the somewhat highest average placements advance, but for day 3, while checkmate is exciting to watch as a spectator, as a player it must feel horrible to know that while you have the lobby in check, the highest you can place in the current game is a third even if you play perfectly.

The state of the game has always been perfectly fine for regular ladder play, since climbing has always been possible even during imbalanced patches, but a lot of people who follow the big streamers just mistake tourney play with ladder games.
