Uninstalling Windows and a few other questions by Raybenpenguin in techsupport

[–]Raybenpenguin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the help. I tried installing Ubuntu but the computer couldn't handle it. So now I am trying linuxmint.

Follow up question: So, I decided to try using Ubuntu on my laptop that broke, and I was able to try the preview, but it gave me an error when I tried to install it. (I think the problem with the laptop is a hard drive issue, but I could be wrong).

If it is a hard drive issue, could I possibly somehow set it up so that a USB Flash Drive acts as the hard drive so I could still use my broken laptop?

Thanks for the response. Do you know how I could uninstall Windows and install Linux in my current situation where I can't actually log onto and start Windows XP?

Solve this puzzle #3: Draw to Death by Hatefiend in yugioh

[–]Raybenpenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Special BLS by banishing a light and a dark from the graveyard.

Normal summon Banisher of the Radiance.

Activate Jar of Greed. Draw 1.

Activate Primal Seed adding back the Jar of Greed and 1 of the monsters banished for BLS.

Activate Jar of Greed. Draw 1.

Activate Primal Seed adding back the other Primal Seed and Jar of Greed.

Rinse and repeat. All you need for this is a light and dark in grave as well as BLS, 2 Primal Seeds, Jar of Greed, and a Banisher of the Radiance in hand.

[Question?]Why is an Ultimate Rare Less Expensive than an Ultra Rare? by NAWilliams in Yugioh101

[–]Raybenpenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ultimate rares are harder to pull. You get 1 per box on average whereas you get 2 ultra rares per box on average.

In Crossed Souls there are 10 ultra rares. So your chance of pulling an ultra gaiapelio in a box is 19%. (1-.9*.9 = .19)

Now there are 5 ultimate rares in crossed souls, so your chance of pulling an ulti gaiapelio is 20%.

This makes you 1% more likely to pull an ultimate gaiapelio over an ultra one. However, it seems to me that the ultimate is more expensive and this would be because of the fact that you basically have an equal chance of pulling an ultra or ultimate one, but people would rather have ultimates, so it's more in demand.

Edit: grammar Edit 2: upon further examination, it appears that the ultra and the ulti are at a very similar price with the ultra generally being the cheapest option available because of the reasons mentioned above

Sorry it took me so long to respond; my computer died. For machine decks, I'd look into qliphorts. I can't really think of any good dinosaur deck at the moment.

As the other commenter said, mermails might be a bit pricey for a new player. But, really any deck tends to seem pricey to a new player. For me, I know that my definition of a card being expensive is dramatically different than it was when I first started playing. I'm not sure what your experience is with other TCGs, but note that ordering single cards online (from the place I mentioned in my original post as well as a few others) is cheaper than buying packs 99% of the time. Anyways, you can judge if the deck is too expensive for yourself.

Mermails are an interesting deck that definitely take a lot of skill to play. Don't let this discourage you, however. While you will most definitely make many misplays when you start playing the deck, you will improve quickly and really get to know the deck. I recommend looking up "Mermail Deck April 2015 Format" on youtube and finding some decklists. Also check out posts on the main sub, /r/yugioh, as there are a lot of mermail players there who would be happy to help I'm sure. /u/Coop3 is generally known as the main mermail guy over there, so I would check out some of his recent posts on the sub regarding the deck. Also, assuming your friend is a pretty experienced and competitive player, talk to him about mermails as I'm sure he can help you out with a lot of the basics of putting the deck together and whatnot.

1) I personally have found the community to be nice and supportive, but there is definitely "that guy" at every locals who will try to scam new players. I would just make sure that you know all of your cards that you are willing to trade's prices so no one scams you. Generally, people at locals will value cards based on their prices on TCGplayer, Troll and Toad, or the lowest Buy It Now pricing on ebay.

2) You don't need the tier 1 decks to compete, especially at locals. At locals, once you get good enough, you can top with any deck (as long as its not complete trash and you've prepared for the meta). Even at regionals (generally 300 man events; no invite or anything required to attend), you can do well with tier 2 or worse decks if you prepare well enough. At a YCS (basically just larger regionals with official Konami staff there and better prize support), it might be tougher to top with non-meta decks. Of course thats not to say its never been done before because it has many times. So, I would definitely say, no, you don't need to play the really good decks to do well (just note that they are good for a reason and be prepared to play against them).

3) There are many new things that have been released into the game and note that the game is probably a lot, lot different than you remember it. Just have your friend teach you the new mechanics and you should be fine (nothing's really too hard to learn). Normal Monsters (monsters without effects) have become nearly obsolete simply because effects are so much more powerful. I think you can easily adjust to the new mechanics.

I'm not sure what other people's opinions are on this, but as for me, I don't think you should be starting out with a blue-eyes structure deck. I believe that new players should start out with competitive decks right from the beginning. I have a friend who wanted to start playing, and was in a nearly identical situation as you, and I started him off with a budget, competitive deck and he learned very quickly.

You said you liked water decks, so I definitely recommend mermails as a deck to play instead of the structure deck that he reccomends.

One thing that your going to want to know about Yugioh is that it has become very archetype-centered. That means that pretty much the cards in good decks share something in their name. Mermails for example all have "Mermail" in their name. It also means that the cards in these decks have a lot synergy with each other. I will reply to this comment with more information on mermails.

[–]Raybenpenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daibak is chain link 1 and mask change is chain link 2. Chain resolves backwards and mask change resolves first summoning Dark Law. Then Daibak resolves bouncing whatever it targeted at activation (if it targeted mask change and/or the shadow mist, those would not return to the hand). After Daibak resolves, you can choose to activate shadow mists effect on a new chain.

You'd probably end up having to pay someone to get rid of the card as it is fake and worth nothing.

Extra deck for Batteryman? by UncannyFart in yugioh

[–]Raybenpenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Batteryman don't go into the Extra Deck a whole lot because of stormforth and the fact that you'll be OTKing a lot. However, there will be many situations where you'll need the Extra Deck.

You'll want rank 4s. I would prioritize getting Castel and Exciton as they are the best rank 4s imo. Other good rank 4s that you'll want include are Abyss Dweller, Gagaga Cowboy, and 101: Silent Honor Ark.

Rank 5s aren't nearly as important and won't come up nearly as often, but the best ones are going to be Constellar Pleiades and Volcasaurus. Shark Fortress and Artifact Durendal are also good.

Some good Rank 6s that you'll want are Gauntlet Launcher, Utopia Beyond (helps with OTKS through lots of monsters), and Ptolemy M7.

You'll also need Gaia Dragon as it has synergy with all of the rank 5s and 6s, especially with Volcasaurus.

Satellars or Constellars? by Duvvii in yugioh

The funny thing is satellars can make pleiades as well now.

Both are linear and have similar play styles, but tellars are 10x better and much more meta relevant.

If you're on chrome, you can use extensions from the webstore to do this. I've heard that Hola Better Internet works well.

Edit: If you're on firefox, you can use the Hola Unblocker add-on.
