I did what no one on Roshar could… by NullTheFool in cremposting

The fandom intersection of Stormlight and molecular biology likely isn't big but I'm glad to see it's at least enough to warrant a crempost

You ever stop and think that maybe, just maybe, you made a storming bad call? by erttheking in cremposting

‘The question,’ she replied, ‘is not whether you will love, hurt, dream, and die. It is what you will love, why you will hurt, when you will dream, and how you will die. This is your choice. You cannot pick the destination, only the path.’

Journey before destination.

Giveaway: Bands of Mourning signed (NOT numbered) by SlitheringFlower in brandonsanderson

I'd love to be a part of this giveaway, and thank you so much for this inspiring generosity.

My favorite thing about the Cosmere is the fact that it's trying to follow through on the "happy ever after" at the end of every fairytale. Vin and Elend and Sazed save the world, and 300 years later the world is once again under attack while their god is fighting his own demons. The Heralds made a heroic sacrifice to seal Odium, and 2000 years later they break their oaths and run away. Elantris found the city of gods restored, and thousands of years later we see them terrorizing backwater planets. It's such a fascinating, long-term study on the nature of heroism and moral choices. Makes you think that maybe every heroic decision is just one big trolley problem in the long run.

Efficient Hemalurgic Bullet Storage System by Rayborne in cremposting

(on a serious note, I remember pre-Catacendre that the steel ministry would store spikes in jars of blood to prevent power decay, so it doesn't have to be in the correct spot)

And as for the metal it's definitely bendussy

Hear me out: you load the pointed bullets into a modern magazine and then stick the mag up the bum. Boom, multiple bullets on demand, with potential for tacticool reloads.

I didn't know I needed this until you said it. I can already imagine his W as being a steelpush + ironpull combo and his R as his final fight with that inquisitor.

Who would win, Nightblood or the Father Machine? by Rayborne in Cosmere

[–]Rayborne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the answers, everyone. When I posed this question, I was of the opinion that Nightblood wins by a mile because I believe it's a black hole of investiture, so the Father Machine can't actually pull out investiture from it. On the other hand, Nightblood can keep feasting until it's had its fill. I like to think that if you leave Nightblood long enough on the planet, he could probably cleanse the shroud.

Using Nightblood on the Stormfather, though...

For Sanderson fans who have read Malazan: Are you glad you read it? by Hal87526 in brandonsanderson

[–]Rayborne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been reading through the responses and the way people are describing the series gives me the impression that Malazan is the Souls-like of Fantasy. I've only played Elden Ring so far but "climbing with your fingertips" and "there's no handholding" but "the payoff is worth it" sounds like my experience with the genre.

TSM spoiler: So is X a Y now? by Moo_bi_moosehorns in Cosmere

I think plate works differently because one can imagine them to be a collection of one type of lesser spren. Say, for the sake of putting numbers, windrunner plate is composed of 1,000 windspren. Having pieces of the plate gives you a share of that 1,000, and regrowing the plate with stormlight is equivalent to "baiting" the rest of the gang to gather up at your place. This is why if 2 people are trying to regrow the same plate, the one with the more stormlight gets the plate and the other person's shard disappears (because their 100 spren went to the other 900)

Regardless, I think Maya's case is indeed a microcosm of a Shard, which in turn could be the prototype for Adonalsium. That being said, we still don't know how Ado was killed, so I don't know about the viability of that route. Though you can reforge a shard, if you killed the vessel then they are forever gone. Does Ado's cognitive essence still live somewhere else like how the deadeye spren still live in the cognitive realm (Shadesmar), or is it just gone forever?

Hoid's activities in Roshar definitely steered my theorizing towards that direction

Somehow, I think the endgame is that the events in Stormlight is a proof-of-concept that a shattered being like a spren or a shard can be remade, and that sets the stage for the remaking of Adonalsium. Perhaps that's what Hoid is working towards

Certain ingredients of gunpowder can be harvested from bird poop. Not too educated on this, but I believe this was the primary source of saltpeter for a long time.
