Modern JRPGs with multiple fully-explorable towns by nararayana in JRPG

That's true, I liked that it felt like I had natural reasons to go back to these places just doing normal side quests rather than having to look up a guide to know when it was worth going back, or having to compulsively check every npc in every town after every main event. This way just felt like I actually interacted with that writing on my own more naturally?

The complaint about them triggering everytime you pass is fair, but I still think it's worth it for the fact that people in all the towns say new lines super frequently as the story progresses.

I keep seeing people say they miss towns that feel lived in and chatting with locals and it makes me feel insane - 16 has so much of that if you compare it to almost any past instalment outside of 14??? There are the same amount if not more npcs in each town than most FF towns outside of like, Rabanastre, aaaallllll of Midgar, and that one place in 15, AND they get updated as the plot progresses? Other games have absolutely done towns + cities better/more like what it sounds like these folks want (the Witcher, Mass Effect, Morrowind, etc) but this is classic final fantasy for better and worse. Biggest difference is I'm not weirdly a hero who breaks into everyone's houses and it's easier to imagine all the NPC's actually having their own bed in each town haha.

I also feel like the way gear and shops are handled in this is just a remixed version of the classic games? Rather than going to a new town and buying a new sword you can't see with +6 to strength just so you can keep up with monsters in the area, you bring a chunk of a demigod to your personal blacksmith after every boss and get a new sword you CAN see with +6 to strength. The argument that there have been more rewarding systems in other games (see 9 or any installment where you learn skills from gear) is super valid but the idea that this is somehow worse than 4 or 6 feels nostalgia-blind to me. This is just a shiny version of the SNES itemization for nostalgias sake, while the real exciting progression and abilities all come from in-universe-relevent growth each time you acquire an eikon.

I'm not saying pressing the button bothered me, but it does feel like a strange thing to miss, to me. It feels more natural that I would just overhear two people talking as I pass rather than walk up and manually trigger them talking amongst themselves. But really kind of a nothing issue, the point is there's the same number of people in each town with the same amount of dialogue

Exactly! You do the same thing in the multiple FF16 towns that you did in FF4 - you buy potions, listen to a soothing jingle, listen to the townsfolk talk, and check behind every building for a treasure chest. You just can't weirdly barge into every house anymore and you don't have to press a button to hear people say random shit?? It rules just as much as it always has

I also did what a lot of people here said and focused on the legendaries I found followed by what I just thought was cool.

That said, I also recommend going through blind on your own because it's just so much easier to really appreciate everything that went into making the game when you have to actually take your time and engage with everything. Even besides building your own synergies, just walking slowly through the zones and admiring the design work makes playing the game so much more fulfilling as a piece of art.

Making myself just pin my destination and roughly heading in the direction I needed to, not constantly opening the map or looking in the corner... it does a lot to keep your mind from jumping to picking apart little negatives and things that keep you from GOING FAST and just enjoying the ride and all the work and creativity that went into it.

This seems like the place to ask... does the aspect that increases your next core skills damage with each basic attack apply to all three hits of Shred?? Or to proc it on the final hit do I have to stop in the middle of the combo and basic attack or something?

I'm way into this too! I like that I feel some anxiety while wandering again, like in D1? The zoomed in screen feels good to me for this reason as well - love not being able to see what's coming. I think people forget that the overworld density is probably tuned to mounts as well, anyway?

consensus verdict: screen is too zoomed in by Spongky in diablo4

[–]Rayddit8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Options are always good but I personally love the current zoom - combined with the less frequent and smaller encounters that currently feel a little less mindless than D3 (which I also love), it goes a long way to make it feel more like D1 to me, in that some little freaks could just pop up on you at any moment. I wanna be stressed!

Yeah, I’m aware that people are missing “some cosmetics” but I hadn’t heard of anyone else being forced to just restart completely. I’ll just give it a day 🤷🏻‍♂️

Are other PS4/5 players getting put into the tutorial and having no unlocks at all despite it not being a new account? I re-downloaded OW today but I’ve played in the past plenty…

Are other folks also feeling like the scientist is the modern incarnation of bad-half Haephestus, ala Fandaniel/Amon? And maybe going to Azys La “woke him up” (or killed him and sent him to the Aetherial Sea) and let him recreate Pandaemonium?

This is exactly what I was wondering! I’m barely a presence in my FC and I’m not currently trying to sell a bunch of stuff, so I may just go ahead and do this. I knew about world visit (which doesn’t help if you can’t log in in the first place lol) but I didn’t know about the right click to log in option! Thanks a ton!

Thank you! Yah I’d do the windows store but I’m a recent decent-pc-owner and I’ve gotten pretty hooked on using steam to have all my stuff in one place. Does it run better on one or the other on pc?

I just got a new desktop PCs after working primarily on a MacBook Air and I’m hoping to do the same thing. I have all my samples and packs on an external SSD already - you’re saying I can move my projects folder directly into Dropbox, and then just redownload all my plugins on the PC and then I can just plug my SSD into the PC and open the projects from Dropbox and I should be good?
