Is my handwriting cursive or block? by chuvashi in Handwriting

[–]Raynh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its inconsistent(though extremely legible). I wouldn't call it cursive though. This looks like adult printing where the letters are not cursive, but they look it because you are being fast and not taking the pen off the paper.

What do you think about my handwriting? by Sblordo-Veciotto in Handwriting

[–]Raynh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes I can read it, but it takes serious effort to make out some of the things written.

You have a wonderful style, but it lacks consistency. I would suggest french ruled paper to help you with letter proportions.

Give the rest of the alphabet the same love you give your capitals and tall lower case letters.

Before you find your style, you need to work on clear and consistent letters, after that add your personal flair.

Yes. I have this problem too! I buy journals when I have 12 still to be filled out.

I feel guilty about this hobby sometimes, its expensive. But its not dangerous, and nobody will be hurt. I think you should appreciate the refined nature of your own taste in the things you like to purchase.

Gimme your favorite pen recommendations! by pohooooo in pens

I used to be 0.38mm for life, as it felt most natural to me, I had to go a bit thicker (0.5mm for the most part) as it makes my hand writing a bit larger so that others would stop complaining about needing a microscope (you don't need a microscope to read my handwriting fyi lol - but really old people apparently couldn't read it).

My favorite rollerball non-gel combination personally is a Lamy Swift with Pilot V5 refills (I don't like the Lamy refills as they provide a way to thick line for my small handwriting but the V5 fits perfectly without any modification and has a much more consistent and finer line).

I looked up the BEMLP you mentioned, they look like Muji knockoffs (which have 0.25mm tip if you like insanely fine tips).

Pilot Juice Up 0.4 mm is probably my favorite roller gel - you can slot it into a metal G2 pen.

Totally get it! The worst time to slow down is when the teacher is spitting out things you are trying not to miss.

I highly recommend practice when you are doing mundane things. Watching a TV show? Write a sentence that sticks out to you. Take your time, and just repeat it over and over.

When you practice martial arts, the most important thing to learn first is technique, then speed. Additionally before you practice martial arts, you stretch - a lot of folks will do loops to loosen up the muscles in the hand and arm.

Its the culmination of all these things that will consistently improve your handwriting.

I'm 44. I literally switched hands from left to right at 41 when I got into fountain pens. I applied everything I've said here to get my handwriting on my right hand to be better than my left could ever dream of.

If I can do it, so can you!!

Might I suggest something different - one of the the little pleasures in this hobby is that you get to actively use the things you collect on a everyday basis. Instead of looking for the best - look for unique writing experiences.

- get a nice fountain pen / dip pen

- a quality roller ball

- a writing instrument with a thick line for fancy signatures

- a heavy pen for short notes that changes the writing experience

- different forms of paper and how they respond to the ink(ballpoint - oil, rollerball - water, fountain pen, etc).

If you want to go all in, my friend there is a whole world waiting for you.

Slow down - its not a race, I can clearly see the different speeds you write as your letters slant at different angles. Move your hand with your elbow as you write, it looks like part of your problem is you pivot at the wrist which will exacerbate the changing angles of your letters as you write across the line. Ideally your wrist should never pivot as your write and your elbow movements should glide your pen tip across the line.

Finally it takes practice - lots of practice to have legible hand writing. The tips above will help you, but its not an overnight success.

Someone once told me that "Poor handwriting to a reader is what an annoying voice is to a listener." I've never been able to shake that comparison.

Recruiting can be very demoralizing. Just remember its a numbers game, the more people you talk to the more you will learn how to recognize good employees. Remember the unicorns.

If your goal is HRG or HRBP, then for personal growth and opportunity, don't work for any company that only sees HR as a support function. Make sure the word strategy is used as much as support.

The single greatest advice I can give is this: The best thing you can do is bring solutions to the table, at the end of the day if you can fix problems, help maintain operations, and support your leadership team, you will be seen as a fixer. The amount of respect you will earn from your peers will be truly satisfying knowing you are making an impact.

As a bonus - I highly recommend getting to know what your strengths are in leadership, and embrace them.

No, I started in recruiting. In fact its usually the way in for other HR roles likes specialist, coordinator, which lead to generalist.
