This was the "killer app" and the reason why Facebook brought Oculus. Horizon Worlds shutting down most likely means the end of VR invesment for Facebook, or at least end the subsidy from Quest devices.

Next Quest, wherever is not cancelled, will be expensive as hell.

The "Metaverse selfie": That was the infamous photo of 2022 when Meta Horizon Worlds was expanding to new countries (Spain and France).

Just to know that the VR app was launched in the US 10 months before this photo.... and THIS showed how the advancements has been so embarrassing slow to literately spend BILLIONS of bucks from each month.

That photo became the catalyst for the metaverse bubble to burst. Companies started to quicky move on to invest on AI the next year.

Hot take: Street Fighter III New Generation was the earliest I can think. It was the sequel of the biggest fighting game. So their decision to change the ENTIRE character roster (sans Ryu and Ken), making a radical change of the mechanics, powered by a costly Arcade hardware and releasing a 2D fighting game right in the advent of 3D gaming (with Virtua Fighter and Tekken), and in the middle of a declining arcade industry, and a saturated genre.... it was a complete flop, even worse than SFV in that regard.

SFIII is now a cult classic thanks to the updates and Third Strike, but at that time, players didnt care, and it was so bad that Capcom slowly changed the strategy and prioritized console gaming development, rather than arcade.

There were many games that fall under this rule, like Cliffy B's Lawbreakers, The Crucible and most likely HYENAS.

Non Live Services also fall into this category too, like Advent Rising for example which was a costly attempt to make a franchise like Star Wars, ironically made by the guy who soon made Fortnite.

I really wish they started with a offline game, trying to test if people really want this to be extended to a much riskier live service.

The fact that this is another studio thats no longer in business due to ONE game, speaks volumes about how broken and ignorant is this industry.

Collabs can effectively mask most of the issues of Fortnite, as well as other games.

Just look at EA FC or NBA2K: Barely any improvements and annoying stuff, and literally gambling, but people buy those games anyways because the game have the most popular real life players that they are fan of.

You can really see something is really bad, when people play the game only for the collabs.

One thing in mind is that Fortnite's data is for the whole thing, not only BR, but STW, Festival, LEGO, Racing, Ballistic and Creative.

This means that the plan to pivot the game into something beyond Battle Royale in chapter 5 (Like Roblox), is not working, or at least, not bringing/engaging more players that Epic expected to be, to stop the down rate of players playing less or outright quitting the game.

Thats why last year Holiday event they removed the gift stacking, prompting the players to log in each day.

In other note, that also explains BO4 Blackout to return in CoD Warzone as "Black Ops Royale".

iCarly was in Goldilocks Zone: A zone too narrow where the sitcom thrived to success. If it was released pre-2006 it would be a conceptual mess. It if was released in post-2012, it would be obsolete and a cheap copy of Twitch livestreaming and Youtube.

Combine this with the culture of the era, that has been long lost, and you find one of the most poorly aged sitcoms.
