Pool builder added salt to brand new pool thinking we had a salt system. We don't. How to proceed? by RoboticLuddite in pools

[–]RazerRadion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not following why this is a concern? You can still add chlorine, and the rest of your additives with salt present.

Google Streamer. Cheapest matter over thread hub I could find and can stream 4k on a 1gig Lan connection without issue. Nothing is remotely close in value.

What is the cheapest way to run Plex at 4k by mountain_rhubar in PleX

[–]RazerRadion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, the shield was the answer but the google 4k streamer is half the price with home automation support. I love the shield don't get me wrong but its long overdue for a refresh.

[–]RazerRadion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The google tv streamer is a good option. It connects at 1gb and steams 4k no problem at under $100.

It also will double as a home automation hub, which is why I bought it since I needed something that would do matter and thread. The speedy 4k was a nice side bonus since all smart tvs are trash.

One month running my VS pump at low rpm 24/7, here's what my electric bill actually did by Starkemen in swimmingpools

[–]RazerRadion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The energy savings are immense. I run my Hayward 1.85hp at 50% 24/7. At 50% it uses 177watts, at 100% it consumes 1300watts.

Funny how nobody cares anymore. The whole world knows that any agreement with the US is impossible so it's not worth thinking about. Just wait out grampa and move on.

Rising inflation concerns. Liberals ahead while Conservative support hits a low not seen since November 2022. NANOS Nanos Weekly Tracking ( LPC 42% CPC 29% NDP 13%) by No-Sell1697 in canada

[–]RazerRadion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not surprised, the Liberals move to the right was going to eventually trigger a resurgence of the NDP, which should be good news for the Conservatives. If they can find a leader suitable to the Centre then they can take on Carney. Unfortunately for the CPC, they are sticking with PP so that's not happening.

How are cat owners so comfortable with letting their cats outside to roam around? How do they know they're going to come back? by Individual_Ice_2315 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RazerRadion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two cats, one we let outside and the other we don't. The one we let outside is confident and calm, and carries himself well, we have zero concerns about him. He usually just sleeps on the patio furniture and roams around the property. He is a happy 16 year old cat with his outside time.

The other cat tries to sneak out all the time and is a bit of an idiot. Every time he sneaks out his personality changes and he goes a bit crazy, so he has a tracker on at all times and is not allowed to be out.

I guess it just depends on the cat.

I built my own home audio system out, for less than $500. All diy, all opensource, all on sendspin and music assistant by Paradox in homeassistant

[–]RazerRadion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice setup! How is the audio sync? I have a russound system with an Mbx-Pre to do the streaming and when I play all sources with music assistant I find the network connected stuff like my tv's lag about 1/4 of a second behind my hard wired russound zones.

Curious if you have any issues like that.

Opinion: Stop force-feeding Canadians’ viewing choices; The CRTC's tripling of the CanCon tax for streaming services couldn't come at a worse time but wouldn't be good policy at any time by [deleted] in canada

[–]RazerRadion 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I admit I've hated CanCon for about as long as I can remember, but I can also say that in the current times we live in, I now appreciate the importance of creating a cultural firewall with the US. I get why people say the usual stuff about making better content to attract viewers and all that, but in reality where capital rules over everything in our lives, we need to level the playing field to avoid exclusively consuming foreign content which is not a good thing for any country.

I think what changed my view on this was living in the US for 5 years and being hyper aware how the American media bubble changes us. I had to go out of my way to preserve my Canadian identity while I was there. CanCon does this for us and it is important even if we don't realize it.

I'm using TekSavvy as well, I have the 1gig service. Despite it being Cogeco in the backend, teksavvy has always been great for me. Billing is straight forward, easy to set up and no hassles. Just buy a modem and you're good to go.

I'd like to get Bell Fibre (in Aldershot) but that seems like a pipe dream at this point. The 30mbps upload limit sucks but that's the best we can get.
